Alright, well here's a quick test of one of the gauges, First photo is in the dark with the bike on, the second is in a decent amount of light, with the bike on as well.  Not quite what I wanted so it looks like I have to continue experimenting,  but I think I'll eventually get something I'm happy with.

I could do that, the issue becomes painting, which I still haven't figured out a good way to do... But I did have some success with my new method.

here it is.  I couldn't get the garage bright enough, but in the daylight the tickmarks are all white, until the backlight becomes stronger than the outside light, when they glow red. The second picture is what they will look like when riding in the day.

Dude, nice work!

You should totally sell those.  Meter boards fetch some nice coin these days.

What's the backing you've put on it?  Are you illuminating it from behind?

The backing is made of vellum that I had printed, It does light from behind using the original housing and lights.  I do still need to come up with an effective way of blocking the light that reflects around the gauge face. Without repainting the reflector it gives everything a blue tint, so that will need to be fixed as well.  But they are getting close...

Looks Great, I would put some more space between the numbers and the hash marks, it almost appears they touch.

b82ta - those gauge faces are sick!!!!! I love it!!! Great idea. Thanks also the files.

PS... I would like to take the files that b82ta so graciously posted and convert them to km, as I live in Canada. Any ideas about the easiest way???

Sorry for the lack of updates, these last couple weeks I've been crazy busy with school work and haven't had time for much else... but as 5 pm today I'm on thanksgiving break and I'm going to try to get a set of these installed in my gauges within the next week. SO I should have some updates after that.

Alright progress has been made.  The speedometer is rebuilt and re assembled.  Here's some photos.  The tach will be done either later tonight or tomorrow.  I am really happy with how they turned out.

Just the stock bulbs.  the red color comes from the actual face.

That I did.  I thought it really set off the face.  The inside of the reflector is painted black because the blue was affecting my red glow.

The gold looks really sweet.  I like the gold needles too.  I've always loved blue and gold as a color combo.
