Thanks for the comments.  Here's the set. The tach redline did not read as well as I had hoped, but its easily fixed... Except that I have to take the gauge apart again.... I'll run it like it is now for a while. The gauges also look much more dirty in the first photo than they actually are...  I'm also toying with the idea of making some wood face gauges with etched numbers. Not for my bike, mostly just to see how well it works.

Nighttime readability looks to be way better than stock, maybe cause the etched numbering catches the light so well.  Hard to be sure from the pics but that's what it looks like to me.

Wood faces would be interesting for sure.

Let us know how the acrylic ones hold up, my only concerns being heat and UV resistance.

I'm more worried about the vellum not holding up than I am the acrylic, but Its an experiment so we'll see.  Also if people would be interested in acrylic gauge blanks I can cut clear white and black, but maybe a field test would be good first.

The gauges are actually mostly backlit now, I think the etching helps some, but I really think if I had just cut a plain blank it would work nearly as well.  I had originally intended to paint them, but the etching wasn't quite deep enough... The next ones I make will most likely just be plain, that way I can change the vellum inserts to whatever style I want.

Alright finally got around to getting some photos of it on the bike. The photos make them look much less legible than they really are... I love the way they look.  I might re-do them over break with a slightly different style, but we'll see

Yeah I'll be doing something to get rid of that crap, not sure just what yet, but it is just way too much clutter up there.... I was originally also going to put the lights in the gauges but I haven't figured out a good way to do it just yet...  I've got all winter to come up with something though.

my lights were in my gauges from the factory, but when I changed to K8 gauges I lost them.

don't need em really, all I want is a neutral light.

Yeah I might just put a couple bulbs somewhere for the neutral light, and maybe an oil pressure.  I can tell when my brights are on, and no one really cares about turn signals anyway... I was toying with the idea of putting a small 'dashboard' with 2 or 4 small lights in between the bar clamps.  Also want to re mount the key and whatnot to somewhere a little more out of the way.  I just hate how much clutter there is up there...

I remounted my key down under the tank, up front on the left.

That sounds like a pretty good place for it.  What did you use for a mount? Just weld something on the frame?

two cents here:

My bike had the key ignition relocated to the triple clamp with one of those little boomerang brackets and I wanted to put it back to the stock location. The factory bracket in the stock location was gone. I bought a pair of pipe clamp-style brackets for mounting electrical conduit from the local True-Value along with the boomerang-shaped bracket from the relocation. Rattle-canned the brackets flat black and used the including rubber insulators pieces (seemed to hold on the frame better, but you could ditch 'em). Worked awesome, looks nice and cost two bucks.

(lemme know if you need pics)

They are still there and can be seen in the right light, I just had those etched on the faces as a reference point.  At this point I just wanted to test out whether or not the rest of the face would work, the next rendition will most likely have those installed, if I can figure out how to do it....  Small leds and maybe an insert to separate the lights?
