Gauge project
« on: October 26, 2009, 01:49:58 AM »
So here is a screen shot of the progress on my newest project.  I've been working on a set of new faces for the 750.  This is what I've got thus far, and though it needs some more tweaking its pretty close to the final product.  Does anyone see anything that needs to be corrected on these? any other suggestions? I would really prefer to only have to have these cut once, though I'll probably end up making a couple variations on font...

turn em down to the 6 o'clock position for more of a racy look!  thats what i have on mine, i do need to show those off some...  maybe put the ND on them so they still look kind of stock...  just my $.02

+1 on the needles at 6 o'clock.  Did that on mine as well and looks awesome.  I left my speedo off though and just have the tach in the center.

Actually just realized that I used the wrong template for the Speedometer.  Does anyone have a scan of a gauge face for the F bikes? Not sure if its any different, but I can't tear into my speedo just yet, otherwise id just scan that one.

From what I understand you can just take the needle off and set it to any position you want...  I was able to find a new file and have revised my designs, now I just have to get some time to actually make these...

that blue glow looks awesome

that's right, they go where you put em.

also if you get your faces done at a local sign shop, you'll only spend about 20 bucks. only thing is, you have to cut them yourself. not a big deal really.

edit:
that blue glow is white LEDs thru a blue/green face. the white shows around the reflector. I like little details

I'm actually trying something a little different with these.  I going to be making them with the schools laser cutter, on 1/8th in acrylic.  I'll post up some process pics when I actually have some process to show.... for now here's the new template files.

ooh! run your starting point at the 1:30 position then your gauges would look upside down.
that would be cool as eff.

I think some british bikes did that.

If this is considered a threadjack, sorry... But, has anyone on the forum tried using only the tach with a second scale for MPH on the same face?  Although it'd be racey I think it'd be (more) legal...   8)  But I guess you'd really be locked into specific final drive ratio... Oh, well.   ::)  Nevermind......   RR

I've thought of it,
I wanted to make it like a clock with the tach being the smaller face at the bottom, you'd have to use an electric mini tach because of the tight space in there.

but... $$ :(

Actually, I was just talking about a second MPH scale printed inboard of the RPM scale. No extra cost, but as I said it would have to assume a specific final drive ratio.  RR

I love how Industrial Cafe's tach goes to 15000 RPM and the speedo goes to 200 MPH  ;D

Talk about optimism!!!

Seriously though that's like having an amp that you can turn up to 11.

That would be cool but I think it being up side down would bother me... just too backwards!  and that is a sweet watch though.  We actually had an old tractor that had the speed for every gear around the face of the tach.  Kinda cool, and it actually was pretty legible.  Guess it never even crossed my mind to do it with the bike... hmmmmm

And I've got some extra time anyway since I can't get on the laser cutter till next week..... Maybe I'll work on a quick design for it.
