219T camchain size ???
« on: October 26, 2009, 06:30:13 AM »
I use a 219T camchain in my CB450 and need some custom sprockets. They want to know size and pitch of the chain and don't recognise the term "219T". Does anyone know what the actual size of the chain is that is designated a "219T"?

Also, does anyone know what the smallest capacity Honda was that ran a 219T camchain? I might be able to get sprockets off that rather than have a custom set made...

Thanks  ;D

219 is a fairly common chain in kart circles, it's strong enough for most kart drive uses and it's small and light. You can use smaller sprockets and still have enough teeth engaged to avoid over-riding.
The pitch is 0.306 inch, I don't have a clue who picked it or why. Rollers are 0.200. Width between plates is 0.183. Pins are 0.118 dia.
This seems to have been Honda's pet chain for 60's to 70's cam drives. I think the CB77 may use the same length as a 350/400, not sure.

Thanks Bodi - I'm sourcing most parts from a kart supplier but they don't do sprockets as low as say 30 or 32 teeth so am looking at a local engineering company for them, hence the pitch question.

I need these to build the winter project - one of those one man motogp style starters so I'm not reliant next year on the wife helping me to start the race bikes! ;D

Hi guys,

I "resuscitate" this old post because I have to change chain&sprockets on my 550F2 '77.
I want to buy this chain (that is a replacement for the original one) but I can't understand if this is compatible with JT sprockets that are 530 pitch.
So, is DID 219T chain 530 pitch? Otherwise, which pictch is this chain (520? 525? Other?)?
Sorry for my english!

Thank you!

The DID219T is a cam chain - not the main drive chain.

Ok, I'm a lot confused. Please help me step by step:
1) I look at this schematics: http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb550f2-super-sport-550-four-1977-france_model17123/partslist/?model_q=cb550f2
2) I look at this sprockets:
    - Front (Honda Part number 5810-000-570) http://www.cmsnl.com/products/jt-front-sprocket-28817_5810000570/#.VXFeKM_tlBc
    - Rear (Honda Part number 5810-000-540) http://www.cmsnl.com/products/jt-rear-sprocket-28237_5810000540/#.VXFeos_tlBd
3) Looking at the schematics at point 1, which is the one where I find the chain I need for the sporckets at ponint 2? Which is the Honda part number for the chain I need?

Thank you
