Think I might have gotten it.

Started feeling achy and tired at work tonight around 9pm. Then started shivering around midnight while sitting in the very warm office placing an order on the computer. Fever is at 101 right now. This sucks! What little paid time off I have saved I need for when the baby is born in January. I'm taking a double dose of Nyquil and going to bed.

Well from what I have been able to dig up, most people that get it end up being just fine unless they have an underlying condition. most people. Some good rest, a good diet(maybe a bit lighter on the bacon for w week or so!) and you should be ok.

well as with any flu, if you start really having a hard time breathing or can't drink enough or keep enough fluids down, go in and get checked out. it seems like most of the people who really have complications are the ones who end up with pneumonia and/or lung infections or the ones who end up too dehydrated, but that's usually the case with any strain of the flu.

My wife, 2 kids, and i left Cabo San Lucas, the same day they closed Mexico City airport, and pretty much locked down the city. Both my boys had "flu-like symptoms" when we got back. The wife is a real hard-ass when it comes to the health of our kids. She DID keep them home from school for the next week, as she would for any illness, and after a visit on day 2 to the pediatrician, they immediately assumed my boys had it. They sent blood to the CDC for further testing, quarrantined us, and announced on the local and national news that a 6year old and a 3year old boy in "Seattle" had "positively" come down with it after returning from MX. WTF! we hadnt even heard back from the CDC. The image in my mind was of the tubes and bubbles attached to my house with helocopters and vans surrounding our house and guys in hazmat suits running around pushing freezers and medical equipment.

turns out they just had colds.

Proud to say they DIDNT spread the PIG-HIV!

Ended up not being the flu, just a really bad sinus infection. I kind of thought so when I woke up this morning, and even though I felt like #$%* and had a splitting headache, my fever had gone down. Went to the doctor and got some Azithromycin, so I should be all better in a few days.

Just got the H1N1 vaccine today. Our shipment of the vaccine had been delayed for several weeks. I transported a child with it today. She was not too bad. On some oxygen. The scary thing for us is that with the regular flu coming, if a child gets one flu, it is still possible to get the other strain and create sort of a super infection. Our hospital is seeing over 300 children a day in the ED alone.

Working OT these days. My ICU is 1 of 2 on the west coast that uses ECMO or lung bypass to keep people alive. Its going to be a long winter... its not pretty drowing in your own lungs from the body's inflammatory response to the virus plus bacterial infections to top it off. It is sad and devastating when healthy young people die. A friend of mine died in my unit last week after being turned.away from a public health clinic cause they thought he had the flu. Turns out his appendix ruptured and he made to the ER too late.
