Gloves and grips?
« on: October 29, 2009, 11:27:30 AM »
I've been looking around a lot and reading reviews but everything is on the internet these days so it's impossible to hold something in my hand and check it out before purchasing. I want grips that are thick and soft because I have bad wrists and elbows. I have seen a few but I never know what is best. I don't really care the cost as long as they last.

I also want winter and summer gloves that are comfortable, warm in the winter, cool in the summer and made using very high standards in quality. Again, I can read all the reviews I want but they are of people that anonymously post on review boards. I can't find most of the high end stuff locally so with out being able to check them out I am very hesitant to order. I really don't care the cost on the gloves either as long as they are long lasting and comfortable.

Let me know what you are using for grips and gloves and why please.

I use the spongy grips that came from the JCWhitney catalog.  I think they call 'em "Superbike" grips, for what its worth.

I use the plain, winter gloves with the longest gauntlet from same - no fringes, studs, conchos, decorations.  Just plain black leather winter gloves with long over-the-jacket-cuff gauntlet.

Both grips and gloves have between 5 and 10 riding seasons on 'em, and I'm in Florida which means year-round commuting and riding, averaging 8K miles per year.  Both grips and gloves are virtually unblemished.

I don't think one could reasonably complain about that longevity, whether they were "high-end" or not.

Best regards,

I really like Oury grips.  Thick, soft rubber without being spongy.

I wish I could help you on the gloves, but the best pair of Winter gloves I've found have been the cheap ($10) pair that I found at the military surplus store several years ago.  No brand name or anything.

Rat, Hey from up north!
Check out the Cortech Scarab Winter and Scarab RR gloves. Great stuff.
I dont do a ton of wet, or frozen butt riding, but the Scarab winter gloves i got are plenty warm.
I use ICON Pursuit (no holes) gloves in the summer.  Leather, Comfie, and not hot at all!
Adrenalline Motorsports in Monroe has both

I went with Gran Turismo grips in "Old Skool Scwhinn" blue.  Thick, spongy, and comfy.
