Goldwing rims on a 550K
« on: December 25, 2005, 09:02:47 AM »
In my search for parts for my 550K, I have been noticing the alloy rims on old "naked" Gold Wings. They are 3 inches wide, if I have it correctly, and I have never thought to count the spokes. Can these rims fit in a 550K frame? Any real adverse effects to wider tires?

I guess I should point out that what I am talking about is lacing the GoldWing rims to 550 hubs.

Their are people on this site that are running complete GL front ends on their bikes, from the trees to the brakes.
I am sure they will chime in... ;D

I guess your opinion isn't shared by all. Did you see the 'Cuda that went for $4,000,000.00 at auction?

Anyway, how about the GoldWing rims?

I'd be thinking   G(garage)M(mans)C(companion) butanyway What about it, can Gold Wing rims be used on 550 ? I'm looking for unique ideas for one myself. This site sure has alot of varied info and alot of guys with good input. Glad I can be part of that.  Bill

If they have the same number of spokes, and my wing parts book says that there are 40 in both front and rear, you should be able to lace them on BUT you may have trouble with the 4.50 x 17 rear in the swing arm/rear fender for clearance. Also due to wings weight the early spoked wheels did have problems with cracking and the spokes pulling through so check any you find VERY carefully
