New From Pittsburgh

Hi everyone.  Brand new here and just wanted to say hi.

Bought a 1981 Honda CB650 Custom last week for $250 to use as a winter project.  Was told that this was a pretty good place to come for info.

I posted a couple of pics of it in the gallery.  All and all it's not in too bad of shape.  Needs some visual repair (paint, chrome, seat, etc) and some mechanical stuff as well (weak starter, carbs need cleaned, needs some work on the front wheel as it doesn't line up for some reason).

I don't consider myself a mechanic by any means but I've done basic (and not so basic) wrenching on my cars and done a little on my Nighthawk 250 as well so I thought it would be cool to work on something over the winter and get it running again.

I'll no doubt be picking the collective brains of this group as I proceed.

Thanks again

TJ

Hiya,

I'm in the Rox.

Right now I'm setting up a place to actually work on it so I haven't done much as of yet.  I did get a factory service manual off of E-Bay and I found a cheap starter from a 79 that I thought I'd try to see if it'll start.  The 79 showed up as the same part number as the 81 C so I figured it was worth the $25 to try it.

At some point I want to try and pick up a set of B or C carbs and swap them out but I'll work with the originals for the time being.

Also need to figure out why the front wheel isn't lining up.  Didn't notice it when I bought it.  Doesn't look like the forks are bent at all so I'll have to take a closer look at it to see what's up.

Thanks for the offer.  Hopefully I'll be able to figure it all out myself but I'll keep you in mind if I need some help.  :)
