Cb750 F2 finally back together with no oil leaks!
« on: November 01, 2009, 12:53:33 PM »
G'day all,

Finally I put the F2 engine back together after an oil leak in the head.  While I was in there I decided to put in a bigger cam, had to fly cut the pistons and do all this for the first time.  I finished the engine midnight on Friday and ran it on Sunday.  Bike fired up straight away with the press of the button.  I didn't have the muffler on just the headers and it sounds like a drag bike.  Enough to give a jellyfish a fat.

Ran it, checked oil level, topped up and then ran it for another 10 mins.  Checked for oil leaks, none.  Hooray first test passed.  Next thing I was out on the road.  I did put the muffler back on and it still sounds beefy.  The cam I put in was similar to an Andrews K grinde.  Not much in the low to middle, hit 6500rpm and bike takes off.  I couldn't believe the difference it makes, changing from a mild cam to a longer duration and higher lift.

Got back after about 15 mins and checked for oil leaks......none!  Hooray for me.  I have to say that it is a very satisfying feeling putting together your first engine after you had to tear it down because of a leaking head that a mechanic couldn't fix after 2 attempts, and not leak straight up.  Now will have to wait and see how it goes.  Usually around 4000kms (2500 miles) it would start to leak.

Anyway, thanks to all those out there on the forum for the advice etc.  You answered my questions, and helped me out lots.  Thanks again, until next time!  (which will be at least new rings in my spare engine, stock.....nah might have to improve it a little)  ;D
