is this in bad taste?
LMAO!  I'll have to show that one to my wife! (wearing helmet first before I get smacked up side the head).
I tried to grow a beard once and couldn't stand it.  It really didn't grow well enough to amount to anything worth keeping.

Detracts from a military appearance. Well groomed mustache is all you can have.

The military didn't used to allow women either, so I'm sure they'll come around on this eventually. ;D

:D They actually went the opposite direction, well the Coast Guard anyway. They used to allow a nicely trimmed beard up until the 80s i believe....

I heard about it from my 17 year old nephew last year, but it was the middle of the month before you could tell anything.  ;D
I grew a beard a few years ago. My wife didn't like it, but she didn't say much. She did make a face every time I kissed her. She said it tickled so I shaved.
Some employers won't let you have one if you are subject to wearing breathing apparatus. It messes the seal up.

The only thing that annoys me about my beard is the smell after eating certain foods. For example if I eat pizza I have to wash my face almost immediately or the smell will drive me nuts.

I have to shave everyday, M-F........it's a job requirement  :'(

Move to the UK, ::) Of all the UK's armed forces, beards are only allowed in the Navy.
I had a beard from being a teenager, went through service with it and didn't shave it off till I was 37. As soon as I did, I pulled a 17 year old blonde :D :D :D :D :D

i cant go any longer without shaving my neck and cheeks. it's way too damn aggravating to keep anymore, so just the goatee and cookie duster.

I can't believe it's almost 2010 and this is still an issue, even for the Coast Guard. I thought men at sea and beards were something of a tradition. At my place of work, cross dressing would be celebrated if the cross dresser was bringing in $$.

MOVEMBER: prostate cancer & depression awareness / Re: NO SHAVE NOVEMBER!!
« Reply #46 on: November 08, 2009, 11:32:28 PM »
To fill every one in, this is called "Movember" and is a MOvement to create awareness of mens health issues such as prostate cancer and depression. People grow there MOs (i.e. moustache) or beards for the month of NOVEMBER (NOVEMBER/MOVEMBER, geddit? ;) ) to raise awareness, and get sponsored by friends, family and coworkers etc for the month. Persons who want to support the cause don't need to know someone who is participating, I think you can donate directly at movember.com. It's no longer just an Oz thing and is now spreading across the globe. I think it's great because we men sometimes think of ourselves as indestructible and have this "I-don't-need-to-see-a-doctor" / "She'll-be-right-mate" attitude. While we are all great men and have many marvelous qualities (natch!), being indestructible is not one of them, and going to seeing a doctor is OK.  :)

You may have seen that BobbyR has been recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, so this thread about Movember is quite timely. It'd be great if people could take the time to look at the website and learn more about Movember and how you can help. It's not too late to make donations, and you can start planning your own local group of moustachied fellas together for next year.

PS, I know that BobbyR created his thread about being diagnosed with prostate cancer as a way to raise awareness, and I hope that bringing it up is not in bad taste, and that he does not mind me mentioning it here. I think that his thread and Movember share the same common goal. (BobbyR, this post is definitely made with the best of intentions!  :) )

PPS, as full disclosure, I am not linked in anyway to Movember, and am not participating in it either so don't ask for a picture!  ;)  I WILL however be making a donation to the cause. Actually, scratch that, I just did.

No I don't mind at all. Other than a bad appendix and a couple of kidney stones 30 years ago have been almost bullet proof up till now.

Life can turn on a dime. If it was not for my wife's #$%*ing I probably would have blown off the referral to a specialist. After that I probably would have blown off the six month follow up when they saw the change.

I am hoping that early results put me very early into this, so I have treatment options that are not too ugly. I just want to send the word out that put your pride aside and get checked.

We are supposed to manage our risk when we ride, so we should also manage our other life risks.

It is no big deal. 10 seconds it is over. In a couple of minutes you will never know it was done.
