Hi guys, anyone here know much about these bikes?  My local shop has one for sale, and I have to say I'm intrigued.

As far as I remember 650cc single carb 4 speed trans. Whitworth thread, Lucas electrics, oil leaks common. Nice feeling bike once you get used to the right side shifter. Good sound and the prettiest tank I ever saw.

I don't remember the leaks being more than an ever present nuisance, and who the heck needs lights or a charging system.
That's just an opportunity to meet the farmer's daughter...

Besides, that gas tank is sure pretty!

All the trouble old Brit bikes are famous for, and all the character and class old Brit bikes are famous for.  Gorgeous.  I would really enjoy riding one of those around every day.  I got palpitations just seeing the title of the thread.  Back to the days when Britania ruled the roads.

Had a 69 Lightning and liked it.  Currently have a 71 Lightning and like it.  You will get familiar with wrenches and screwdrivers as these are kind of high maintenance bikes.  They vibrate a lot and things will come loose.  No oil filter, so oil needs to be kept clean.  Joseph Lucas is the Prince of Darkness.  But, park it somewhere and it will draw a crowd.

Nice, thanks for the replies.  Yeah, it is one sweet looking bike.  Not a perfect specimen though, and he told me he wants to get somewhere around 7k for it.  Waaaayyyyy too high if you ask me.

I checked out the forum on the BSA owner's website.  Pales in comparison to this one.

Lenny.
