Topic: Cb750 69 or 70?

I bought a cb750 K0 2 days ago and have been looking for information as to the year of the bike. It is my understanding that the K0 models were sold as 69's and early 70's. All info I have found says that the K0 models ran somewhere up to 44,000 on the vin. Thats well and good, but where is the breakoff vin number, where K0 models went from being titled as 69's to being titled as 1970? I am going to apply for a title but was wondering what they would title it as or use for reference.
  The frame vin number is cb7501007852. The motor cases are blank with no number. They are not sandcast. The production date on the vin tag is 9/69.

So what I am looking for is reference to where the K0 models went from being titled as 1969's and started titling them as a 1970 model.

So again, I know the model, just looking for info to determine the year the title would say when I apply for one.

Any help would be much appreciated. I am new to your forum and have found that there is a lot of knowledge and knowledgable people on here that may be able to shed some light on my problem.  Thank you all!!

I can't pin down the title turning point for you, I would think it might be somewhat variable, but if it helps, mine turned 40 this month (11/69 build date) as originally titled as a '70 here in Michigan.

I would try to title as a 69.. it is neither late 69 nor for sure would have been titled as a 70.

 Isome places that may have ended up a 70, but I cant see a 750 arriving on these shore in Sept or Oct of 69, and not selling.

 i have a bottom end in the 10K range serial number wise, The cases do look a bit  different than later ones.. make sure you got the right type..

I am in the USA and the bike is a USA model. I could try to title is as a 69 but I want it to be correct. I have see a K0 in the 14,000 vin, and it was listed as a 69. I just want to be certain I am inline with the correct numbering.

I dont think it would really matter too much, but I would go for the 1969 title.
 In PA and MD, when a bike was sold, the dealer would often title the bike as the year it was sold, not the year it was made.
 I have bought a 1978 (on title) GL 1000 that was really an early 1975 GL 1000.

14 K would be december or January build..
 Does anyone really think if made after first week December, it would get in the buyers hands before New Years.. I dont think so..

While the frame says 7852 he says he has no number on the cases. Does this mean a replacemenT set of cases due to damage? If his engine number were close to 7852, that would undoubtedly put it in 69 range as this would be only several hundred after sandcast right?

Bought my 750 from a guy in WA who had had it leaning against the wall outside the garage for 2 yrs. Motor was froze, throttle cable wouldn't move, but with a bit of work (a couple hours in the guy's driveway) and a bunch of PBblaster and wd-40, Mdub got it freed up, so I gave the guy $360 for it. Once we got it home, running and on the road, went to DMV to register, and silly me, actually looked at the title for the first time. Bike was registered as a 73 in WA but somewhere along the line, the vin wasn't checked and the WA title lists it as a purple 73 CB750 k2 with a vin#  that starts xl250....a little googling placed mine (according to actual serial#) as mfg in the middle of 71. Apparently back then it was common for a dealer who didn't sell a bike in it's production or model year, to sell it as the current year model when it was actually sold, there was a class action lawsuit, and Honda had to stop doing that. Spent quite the amusing time at DMV, all the counter people had to discuss it, make phone calls to Salem and whatnot..appears I may have to take it to State Police to have them investigate what happened with the title. Somehow I've managed to put abut 5k miles on it since July tho..

Yes, from what I understand once the bike threw a chain and damaged the case the honda dealer was supposed to stamp in a engine number on the new case.  Apparently, many of the dealers just did not do this step which explains the no number on some of them.

Worked on and ended up w/sandcast cases off #1579,just sold them on * bay,but bike was titled as 1970! I believe #1579 would be a 69.When you got bike you got MSO,perhaps what year sold determined the year on title in some instances?,Bill

W, I'd go to www.sandcastonly.com.There's lots of specific by the #'s info there. Unfortunatley,  If your' cases are neither sandcast (rare) or even Diecast (still rough surfaced) you take a substancial loss of potential value. sign on, and ask the experts. G

Sounds like a frame shortly after sandcast with diecast replacement cases.... it as a 69 K....title numbers should follow the frame not the motor. (Humbly revised sober)

 I would say it's a 69 Diecast with a replacement engine. They did some re-titeling, I got some money once from a class action lawsuit because the 500 I bought new was a 72 model but sold to me as a 73.  I have also seen a late number (10065XX) sandcast bike with correct numbers that was titled as a 70.
 Still a very nice bike but I hope you don't need many parts, they are more costly then the later ones because of the greater value of a restored early 750. I would be happy to have no numbers on my engine, thats better than incorrect numbers.

One more opinion: it was built in '69, title it as '69.  Correct me if I'm wrong here (sandcast experts) but didn't the VIN tag start having the build date on it after the sandcasts?  My sandcast doesn't have a build date on the tag.

If the dealer does not stamp casings is it acceptable to stamp the cases yourself if you know the original engine number. If so does anyone know the corect stamp font to appear authentic. My diecast K0750 had its cases changed due to chain breakage when almost new but the cases are blank.

Yeah I've seen a decent number of replacement cases without any numbers. It seems as though things were a little helter skelter when they were making the K0. It doesn't bother me in the least. if my frame vin was in the sandcast numbers and it was diecast replaced, then maybe i wouldnt be so happy. But with my vin number this bike would have never had a sandcast motor in it in the first place, I think.

  Either way, I'm not going to do anything to the number pad. I am going to get ahold of the guy I got it from and ask him about the original owner. they were next door neighbors for years. If I can get ahold of him I'll ask if it came that way or if he took it in on a recall or replacement or what happened.
