At this point, 3 candles would be brighter.  ;D I'll check out what you guys posted when I get to that point.

I'm still trying to figure out the differences in the fork setups between my '69 and Kit's '72. I'm wondering if hers can handle different years of ears? It looks like she could go with K4 or K5 ears. No other year matches exactly. Unless she just goes with aftermarket.

They blew air in and crushed the floats. :o I didn't even think about that but I can see what you mean. They seem pretty fragile. I have a really nice spare now, for $10, thanks to Kit but I will be keeping the original because you never know. Otherwise, I think I could go to the "newer" version of the float bowls to change to the round float. Is that right?

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Well, I finally got the loot together to order more parts for my bike. It seems no matter how much $$ I make, I never have enough left for me. I don't even get to keep my tax refund this year. :'( Anyway, I got enough together to get the cables, fork gaiters, and other assorted parts. I think I just need tires yet and I should have enough to get it on the road. I hope anyway. The tires will probably come in the next month or so if I can get some OT at work.

I have more electrical demons to get to and Kit gave me some stuff from her bike that she's not using so I should be able to fix up that stuff and make it work. I'm hoping that by the end of June, I will be able to ride it on the road safely and legally. Staying mostly factory with this one as compared to Kit's cafe style. I'm going with the SS tank and seat since I won't have the $$ for quite a while for the original sized seat. I like the bigger tank anyway so that works out.

Pics to come when I can wrestle it out of the back of the garage to work on it. Finally, I'll have enough parts to make it worthwhile and really dig into this beast. I can't wait.  ;D ;D

God on ya Mickey, as you come into your riding weather ours disappears so I get to sit back and watch the Northern Hemisphere projects....that means I want photos and project updates. ;)

There's a parts shop near me called TFOG where they found a 35/40 halogen (H2?) that could fit the CB350F (which is even more alternator challenged than the Twin, in some ways). I have to go there Tuesday (they are closed Mondays) for a 350 twin battery: I'll check to see if they have a low-wattage halogen solution for the twins. That would add a brighter forward....also the (expensive!) HID system would work, throwing an airplane landing light out there for 35 watts of consumption. But they are about $100 for the one you want.  :o

It's either a 520 or a 525 by the look of it Mickey but check it on that site I put in the FAQs for chains.

I'll try to remember to post what they say over there, too. TFOG carries pretty generic parts: if they have it, you'll probably find it nearer you, too.

This might help you understand it all Mickey ;)

A motorcycle chain is the most common method used to connect and drive the rear wheel in a motorcycle. The others are belt drive and shaft drive.
Chain size is in inches, the three digit number used to discribe the chain size is based on the "rule of eights". The first digit is for chain pitch. This is the distance between the pins. The second and third digits combine for roller width, with a decimal point inserted between the second and third digits.

For example, a 420 chain has a pitch of 4/8" = 1/2" (12.70mm) and a roller width of 2.0/8" = 1/4" (6.35mm).

A 525 chain (the size my bike uses) has a pitch of 5/8" (15.88mm) and a roller width of 2.5/8" (7.94mm).

A 530 chain has a pitch of 5/8" (15.88mm) and a roller width of 3.0/8" (9.52mm).

There are a number of chain sizes in use, and chain manufacturers may have slightly different specs for roller diameter, sprocket width, etc. But a 525 chain from one manufacturer will have the same pitch as a 520, 525, 530, or 532 chain from another and run smoothly on any 525 sprocket from any manufacturer.

They also have them with a lamp but I would just buy the light I want locally anyway so I may as well just get it without to begin with. Wouldn't this fit for a reflector? I'm very curious. I haven't measured it but I think I have a 5 3/4" light. I wonder if I could get it to work?

Yeah any of those look like they will work, they use the H4 bulb so same as us.

     I am not sure. The CB350 twin headlight is about 6 1/4". I am assuming that the CL350 headlight is the same as the CB350 twin headlight.

     I have a 6" headlight from a early to middle eighties Honda shadow in my CB400 Four which uses the same size headlight as my CB350 twin. I will try it in my CB350 twin once it is on the road. My guess is that the shadow headlight will mount the same as in the CB400 Four. That is it works but if anyone looks at all closely they will see that it does not fit right. From what I have heard of the 350 twin charging system the 55/60 watt H-4 bulb will be too much for the alternator to deal with. Your local friendly Honda dealer should have a 45/45 watt H-4 bulb. That is a should have not a does have. The 45/45 watt H-4 bulb may still be to much for the 350 twin alternator.
     I hope that I will have my CB350 twin on the road with in the next week. I will do some checking then.

yeah, I'll go with what Hondaman suggests for the bulb. It should keep it low enough to not sap the battery power. I'm just trying to find something that I can come up with since I have the sealed beam. That thing is just too dim for me. I have bad night vision and need something better in there. Otherwise, I would just keep it like it is. I'll try to have a real good look at the setup tomorrow and see what I can mcgyver on it.  ;)

     I pulled the Honda Shadow headlight out of my CB400 Four today. It fits in the headlight bucket of my CB350 K4 with no slop unlike how it fits in the headlight bucket of my CB400 Four. The headlight bucket of my CB350 K4 is marked HM-16M. On the back of the Honda Shadow reflector is HM-34M-S. On the lens is the number 2969. It is a Stanley brand. It came with a 55/60 watt halogen H-4 bulb. The 45/45 watt halogen H-4 bulb was original equipment on some, all?, of the Twin Headlight Hondas. Maybe the same vendor of fine used Honda parts that has a Honda Shadow headlight would have a 45/45 watt H-4 bulb from one of the Twin Headlight Hondas.

Well okay, so apparently the earliest years of these had sealed beam headlights while the last few years were H4. So, I can just go with a later model reflector setup and know it will fit. (we have a spare bucket from a 73 if I need it to work) My bucket is the metal chrome one while the later ones are plastic. The chrome retainer ring bolts in differently between the two kinds of buckets. Small changes over the years. I'm learning.  :)

I've decided to go with the Hondaman ignition on it too when I can afford it. The first thing is to get it running and road worthy. I should buy stock in a wiring company with all of the stuff that's been hacked in this harness.  :-\

Nope. All the US model CB/CL350s came stock with a sealed beam. Here's the headlamp fiche for a '73 CL350K5. The same part # is listed for all 350 twins from 1968 on. And I agree with you - it sucks. I think I'd be better off at night if I taped a big flashlight to the handlebar.

Our '73 CL350 does not have a sealed beam. It shows in my parts fiche for a '68 like this... I guess it could depend on what they had in stock at the time what you got on your bike or they just added it years later to the fiche but this is showing for 350s, 450s, 360s, and 200s.   ???

As far as the difference in buckets, my retaining ring bolts in at different spots than yours. The reflector/bulb should fit either setup though from what I can tell. I'm going to check it against Kit's 350 before I buy anything though. Then I'll go with Hondaman's recommendation on bulb.

Those weren't halogen bulbs, Mickey. And their wattage was about the same as the sealed beam replacements. I hope you find what you're looking for.

someone one here has said that honda shadow buckets are the same size and fit cb350 twins.  They are halogen and have very nice reflectors...

Yeah, you're right, they weren't halogen, I mistyped and meant to say they were separate pieces on some of the bikes. But, I do have some viable, easy options now for this size of light. That's all I needed to be able to move on. I think I can get my hands on a 350 reflector setup that will fit our spare bucket or a shadow assembly. I would like it to still look stock with the original bucket but I also like to see at night, ya know? If I have to change the whole thing, then I will. This is no museum piece by any stretch of the imagination. It should work with the original bucket though, whichever reflector I put in there.
