Bobby

Welcome to the survivors club.  I am in the same situation but my prostrate cancer has spread to my bones.
The good news that was relayed to me from various doctors is you will probably die with the prostrate cancer rather than from it.

I am 59 and my PSA never went above 3. The suspicion came from the fickle finger manuver. The specialist is a big shot at the Hospital so his test scheduling Lady pulled strings to get me the scans done tomorrow which is Saturday. On Wednesday my wife and I will sit down with him and go over the results and options of which there are many.
I am lucky in that I am in the NY Metro area so I have choices as to Hospitals and Doctors. This Doctor removed my Father's kidney 15 years ago, he is not a warm man, but highly regarded. My Dad is now 89.

I posted this to alert you all to not putting off any of these exams. As you can see I am not alone in this group. The traetment and outcome will probably weigh on how soon it was caught and how contained it is.

When you think of it we are all risk takers in this group. We move at fairly high speeds essentially exposed to infinate variables that could kill or maim us, but we put aside the fear and tend to the business at hand and we deal with it.

I thank you all for your well wishes, and I know they come from the heart.

the 'c' word is a scary thing no matter how ya slice it. but like others have said a positive attitude is one hell of a powerful weapon, nothing ever gets done with out it.

my very best wishes for you bobby. judging from your posts you are no push over... kick this things ass into the stone age.

G'Day Bobby, sorry I didn't see this earlier mate, but look after yourself and know that my thoughts will be with you, you're a top bloke and deserve to live as long as your dad, at least. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

BobR,

I am sorry to hear about your difficulties.
I'm sure you will get through it and be stronger for it.
I've had some similar trying times myself and family and friends are a
great help but the old motorcycles and other old machines
can be of comfort also as they sit in mute testimony to the
fact that they will be ready when you are.

I went into the Hospital yesterday for the CT and Bone scan. Prior to going into the Bone scan my Doctor walked by and came and sat with my wife and I. While the results are not ready he is certain that it is very localized and very moderately aggressive. He is a no nonsense guy so he does not talk out of his butt.
The freakin bone scan takes an hour and 20 minutes. I got bored a fell asleep which is part laziness and part blessing, I can fall asleep anywhere.
Will I be a better person at the end of this, maybe yes and maybe no. I will be different I am sure. I will know more at te middle of the week. Thank you all for your well wishes.

My grandpa had it, too, and the bastard thing kept coming back. They finally got it, but you know, things changed for him. Good luck, Bobby.

I may take one of your tours. On fact me and the wife have been discussing where we are going to retire to. We may take a look see at Virginia. After growing up here in NY, maybe we need a quieter lifestyle.

Glad you caught it and will probably be o.K.

My sister passed away this summer from from pancreatic cancer.
She was only 5 years older then me.

Sounds like you caught it in time.  Best wishes to you and your family.  If I may I will relate a humorous story told to me recently by a friend.  He went in for a physical and had the feeling the doctor was just trying to get through the whole thing just to get it over with.  When it came time for the prostate check it happened so quick that my friend was sure he really did not check anything.  What do you do?  Tell the doc "gee I would like you to do that again and this time take your time".  My friend just let it pass. ;D

BobbyR, like yourself, my stepdad was diagnosed and treated quickly a couple of years ago. He's going great. I'm glad that they diagnosed it early, it's great you went back for that check up. We'll all be thinking of you, keep us informed.

Thanks for turning something negative in to a positive by encouraging us to get an exam. I got the "finger" for the first time this year. I had been dreading it for years, but it wasn't that bad and I know I did what I was supposed to.
Keep us posted Bobby.

Bobby,
We are all pulling for you.  Glad that you are being very proactive.  I'm sure the exam is as much fun as a pelvic... endurable for the information they give us.  Maybe they should train girlfriends and wives to do an accurate exam?  Wouldn't that be fun!  Regardless, keep us posted this week on the results and your treatment options.
Cheers,
