1977 CB550 F Choke question...
« on: November 05, 2009, 11:49:43 AM »
Hello out there. I just picked up a 77' CB550 F, in fairly rough shape, but mostly there.  It does not have a choke knob/cable ???.  My question, did the bike come with a choke knob (up near the speedo) and cable setup originally, and if so, does anyone have pics of the linkage setup?  The carbs have a manual lever-type thing on the left side that i've been playing with, and that seems to be handling the choke duties, the bike starts/runs okay.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Yes this did come with a coke cable on the dash and it moves an arm in the middle of the carb bank (between 2 and 3) at the rear of the carbs.  The arm is a forked hook and there is a support above is that pinches the end of the cable tube.

Edit: I now see its a 550F and not a K.  Above is for a K, although the F may be identical.

None of the 550 F models (any year) had a choke knob at the bars.  They used the earlier style carbs with the lever on the side of the carbs.
Only, the 77-78 550 K models with the PD style carbs have the choke knob and associated mechanism.

Hi!

No cable.

Here's a picture of the choke lever of a CB 550 F1 model. Your's should look the same.

I got it.  I'm the F model, and my choke is indeed the lever depicted in the pic.  I appreciate your help, guys.  This forum is just incredible.  I could have easily seen myself chasing down the wrong components.

Thanks again guys.
