CB350 Twin Exhaust- Header/ muffler separation
« on: November 05, 2009, 09:27:38 PM »
Does anyone know if you can pull apart the header pipes from the actual mufflers, on the stock set up for a 1972 CB350 K4?

Sounds like I have a rusted out baffle, and I would like to see if I can pull the bits out.  Or possibly just run the header pipes and remove the mufflers completely.

Thanks!

The answer is "yes". I have replica mufflers on mine. Needed a exhaust gasket between header and muffler. Nowadays they are one-piece, welded, but in the CB350 they were clamped.

Nevertheless, if you have the bike you should have seen the clamp by now....

Original ones were in one piece with a swaged "clamp" at the join, then aftermarket people made just silencers so you cut off the original and slid on the replica with a standard clamp---I doubt anybody makes these now---not sure what the current new ones are

I took the clamp off where the header meets the exhaust, but it's definitely solid.  Wont even budge.

I would think it was like some other bikes, where the muffler had a lead type of gasket / seal and the header pipe slide into that seal, then you clamped everything down with the actual clamp.

I bought the replica mufflers about 3 months ago from David Silver Spares. My exhausts were original but mine did came apart -can't remember whether with much work or not-, but definitely, without the need of power tools-

It's probably rusted.  Lubricate it overnight & heat it, give it some rubber mallet whacks, see if it's loose & repeat
