ordered new shoes for her
I put EBC shoes on the rear of my K3 and they DO make a difference in stopping power. IMO

picked her back up from the mechanic and she was fixed.. didn't have to use a helicoil just tapped the current threads out and put me in some new plugs.. I should be ready to go for the rest of the 2012 World Tour Relay Rally. it only cost 81.00 so that isn't too bad since I didn't buy a tap tool.. and if I am more careful with the spark plugs I wont need one of those again.. :)
i was always taught to only put spark plugs in by hand... then tighten them down with a wrench

Again, epic ride Coke on a 350.... I've been warned before of ease of cross-threading a plug on a hot motor, thankfully hasn't happened to me yet when doing a 'plug chop'.... best of luck with the rest of your Relay ride and hope to see you again  ;)

My replacement tappet screw, nut, and cover came in. Got it all together. The adjuster screw went in pretty stiff. All the other ones can be screwed in by hand, but this one is pretty tight. Is that normal, and the other ones worn out?

Went to replace the locknut on the one that got torn up. Apparently it's not an M6x1.00. It seems more like an M6x.7/.75/.8, whatever the fine thread is. And all the places that are open til 10 don't have them. Now I have to pray City Mill has it, and rush in the morning to get it running, so I can ride it to work.

I know that tappet screw is a fine thread.  Could not find a fine threaded one at Ace in Fredricksburg.  I shot it through the tappet cover during the rally on the road.  Had to drive it into Fredrcksburg that way.  Got lucky and found a used one in a box at Scootique of Fredricksburg.  It came from some old Kawasaki top end rebuild they did.  The cover came off a rusted out old Honda out in the back.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Double checked the tappets, cam chain tension, and the carb sync on the K5.
They were all good.
Still have a bit of clutch chatter. Meh.

Got the XL250s inspected.

Took advantage of the beautiful day to ride to the local lake. A lot of rain lately and the level is up. I believe I can get my boat out now, the floating dock had been sitting on mud since last fall.

Took the 550 for a nice ride.  Pulled the clutch and felt it give a bit.  Stopped to take a look and discovered that my clutch cable was about to fail at the handle.  This is a newer motionpro replacement that i put on a yr or so ago just to avoid such a failure of the old one.  Limped hm.  It finally broke about a mile from home, so i navigated through town in such a way that i could avoid a total stop.

Luckily i kept the old one as it was in decent shape, just old.  Any other recomended brands other than motionpro?  Think i will avoid them after this.

Geez that's no good mate? I've used Motionpro clutch cables on my K1 for the last 7 years and recently put one on my Suzuki GS1000 with no issues, maybe you just got a bad one? Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

got my carbs adjusted, freed up two frozen brake calipers using the grease gun method (thank you so much, this worked awesome!) put it all back together and fired up my 550 for the first time. Sounds great and got me excited. Took her for a little trip up the road to clean it out...dang this is fun :)

took my bike on a long highway drive to a friends.  First time i've been on it besides two short bursts but the bike seemed to love running in the slightly higher rpm's.  Wonderful riding and riding on the highway isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Yeah, I figured. I'm just glad it wasn't some crazy special thread or anything. Got it running and everything this morning. Ended up not riding it to work. It had a really hard time starting, and when it did, throttle between closed and 1/4 was very weak. Seems like I need to bump up to my 42 slows and see how it goes.

the powerband is up there in the rpms... rev her as high as you can... to the redline that is.... 750 is plenty of power for any situation.. i think its rediculous for some of these bikes to need more power

Just got done with my carbs. Changed to 42/115 from 45(then 38)/120. Feels SO much better. The 115 is definitely it. The 42 is still a bit rich, but it's dramatically better than 38 (actually runs), and noticeable better than 45. I still need to get my mid-pipe made, and once I do, I'll try going for 40/115 first.

Put the master link in my new chain - what a battle without the proper tool to get the side plate on! Adjusted the chain and installed the chain guard. Tightened up a number of bolts. Replaced the 2 oval head screws for my rear turn signals. Got most of the final routing of wires done and installed my shifter cover and front sprocket cover. Installed and trimmed cotter pins. Final install on shift lever and rear brake lever. Took a good look at it then went to my basement and got my new CR31's and new boots out to install tomorrow.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I've been slowly working on my BMW R100RS in order to get it back on the road. On Friday it had it's Roadworthy inspection and (pretty much) passed with flying colors! Not registered yet, but I borrowed a "Trade plate" from a friend who owns a bike shop, and took it for as ride over to visit Brian. (Bear)

It was the first decent "around town" ride I've taken it on, and it highlighted one real PITA, the shifter linkage. I had the same problem with my previous R100RS, the shifter linkage is just a bent piece of wire, and is sloppier than a 10 dollar hooker. I missed gears, crunched gears, found false neautrals, you name it, I still had a great ride, but it took the edge off my riding experience.

The weather was awful today, and being Mothers Day in Oz, I didn't have a whole lot of time to play with my bikes, so I decided to sort the linkage.

I rummaged around and found a pair of 6mm rose joints.

I couldn't remove the footpeg mounting bolt, it's a capscrew, but the internal hex was buggered, so I had to drill the head off it.

Once I had the footpeg/shifter mechanism off, I drilled and tapped the linkages for 6mm screws.

The weather really was terrible, and my work space was limited to "between downpours".

So I amused myself by grinding tracts of skin from my appendages. Where did I put those gloves?

Anyway, it all worked out, and I'm happy with the finished product, both aesthetically and mechanically.

I took it for a ride in the rain, and the shifting difference was incredible! It "snicks" into gear with no slop, shifts very positively and overall, just feels great. I didn't miss a gear, the lever was just where I wanted it, so I'm a happy camper! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Well done Terry - you could almost sell them as an after market improvement kit.

What did I do to any of my bikes today?

Not f*%king much - as it pissed down rain here in Thornbury, but I did buy myself a locker for my shed to keep my riding gear in.
