+1 on the AGM Batteries Jerry, but a cheap multimeter attached to the battery's terminals with the engine revving at around 3000 RPM should show 13.5(+) volts. If it doesn't, check the connections on the 3 AC wires coming from the alternator, unplug them and clean each connection and check the voltage.

If it's still low swap the wires between connectors and check the voltage again, I don't know why this works, but it's worked on both my Suzuki GS1000 and my CB750 K1 and K2, so I do it on every bike that comes into my shop now. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Thanks guys. Just glad the bike has a kickstarter :)

I'd like to check the specific gravity, but I don't think I have a hydrometer small enough to fit. I'll still check everything, but if it's anything in the charging system, it would most likely be the alternator since I'm running the Oregon Motorcycle Parts Reg/Rec. I'm betting on the battery being bad though.

Tried to start my 750 for the first time in 2 weeks.....cranked with switch.....died..........kick,kick,kick,kick, got frustrated.

Wife looking out the door, saying all your tools falling all over the floor, you'll be hollaring cause you won't be able to find your tools.

Looked inside the tank, low on fuel, turned the petcock to reserve and fire right up..........................geeeeeeezzzzzz.

She's still sitting on the center stand waiting for the chain to come in and looking for some place to buy swing arm bushings..............

New brake shoes will be here on Monday.......................
If it ain't raining, I'm riding.....~~{iii}?~~prost

If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I cut and pasted from someone else.

Finally popped the fork tubes out. I downed it a month or so ago after some jackass walked in front of me (and he SAW me too!) ever since then the fork seals have been leaking.
Looks funny with no forks. Beheaded.

Already had new seals though :)
Inspected the tubes, no cracks.(which was my fear after noticing sudden leakage).

So tomorrow hopefully I can get the forks back together and installed, and rebuild the brakes in time for an evening ride along the coast.
I've been pretty quiet on this board, mostly because I've been able to figure out everything I need to know by lurking, but I'm happy to say this bike has been really shaping up thanks to the info I've found here. It now starts up first kick or 1-2 turns w/ starter and is running smoother than I've ever seen it.
Still gotta try to win back some compression though, ~120-125 on each cylinder. At least it's even :P

I'll probably chime in with a wiring issue here soon. PO did something weird and I can't figure it out. I can only get turn signals, or headlights, but not both  :-\

Took both F's out for a spin today to compare the 915 to the 836.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand ?    ;D ;)
aAAAAAAAAAAND ? ;D

Posted a comparison here.

Really no comparison at all, the 915 wins across the board with the exception of gas milage. ;)

Now that the 550 is all tuned up...
Took the squeak out of the brakes! (sigh :))
And then I went through and rechecked the timing, valves, cam chain, etc... All good :) (I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this) ...

Then I changed the oil on the 750...

She is running so I installed an AGM battery this week. Today I checked and adjusted the valves and timing chain. Bought oil and filter but ran out of steam and weather to change it. Installed two new tires; replacing the 40 year old units (don't know why, still had plenty of tread left......... ). Removed the buzz for the signals (good for forgetting the signals but very annoying).

Carbmate can't do four carbs so last night I ordered the adaptor to allow that plus the brass tube adaptors that go into the intake manifolds so I can sync the carbs.

Polished the rims up a bit while they were off the bike. She is cleaning up pretty good. But she has very little torque. I like torque.

Took me pretty much all day to get the required supplies and get the forks and brake rebuilt.
Now it's 3:50am and time to go take a ride and hope everything is correct :P

EDIT:
And made it back. Also patched the exhaust which had way more of an effect than I imagined it would. This thing is just smooooooth now. Front suspension is TIGHT, but I do need to prime the brake a little better....

Good battery, spark and fuel?  If yes, wait an hour, give full choke and dont touch the throttle til she fires. This is the only way a couple of mine will start cold.

Took the 550F for it's first ride with new tank, rear shocks, sprockets and chain. Feels a lot different. Seems higher in the rear and in front. She super ugly right now as the tank is brown with gold trim, side covers are the blue/green and seat is black... BITSA piece now.
