Even though I keep my tools in decent order, during tinkering sessions I'd always be squinting to see the etchings in the chrome. They should have fixed that design faux pas decades ago .. wtf! Tired of that #$%*.
Bought some cool color coded sockets from HF. :)
... and ...
Put the luggage rack on the 550 and brought a few bags of good garden dirt to work. :)

...filled in fresh 10W40, put power to the coils, kicked it for two times and the engine was running.
Did a carb sync and drove ~300 Meters without breaks  ;D engine is running good.
Put back the front breaks and changed the MC.

Swapped out a front rim on my 750. Had a new shop mount and balance and now she rides real nice! The 750 got some balls!  Now I have to learn how to sync the cArbs as well as I know how to for the 550.  Idles like poop under 2k.

Will do Terry,

I'm going to check the valves tomorrow and hopefully get the carbs sync'd, can't wait to ride it. It sounded nasty when I got it fired up last month, real mean. Made my Honda  sound meek, haha. You may be right about the cb not seeing much use, I've got plans for it after I get a season or so out of it. Swingarm, front end and frame bracing are in the works, vintage style with some modern amenities!

Cheers

Yeah mate, as much fun as a hotted up CB750 is, a big Kawasaki or Suzuki DOHC bike is just awesome in comparison. My GS1000 is good around 100 BHP in stock form, but I had one years ago that had been worked, and was good for 140 at the rear wheel, and would do a 9.7 second quarter.

For a bike that weighs around the same as a CB750 there's just power everywhere, so they're scary fun to ride. I still love my old SOHC 750 Honda's, but if you want to ride a real superbike from the era, it has to be a Kawasaki or Suzuki. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

re-torqued my new oil pan gasket (7ftlbs) to help keep my shoes clean  ::) and rode to work.  At 6am i'm very much appreciating a properly tuned fast idle cam and accel pump for cold/early morning starts.  Hit the start, put my helmet & gloves on, and i'm down the road without waking the family.

Put my new clip on bars and grips on. New headlight ears, brought the fork legs up through the trees an inch and a half for a total drop of 4 1/2" in the front.

Carbs are still working great, bike running beautifully.

Today I'm cutting and fabbing up my front fender to make it the rear fender and putting my new mini taillight/plate holder on it.

New tires should be here on Monday. About to call this bike done until winter, then ripping it completely apart and cleaning the hell out of it/stripping it and repainting everything. I hate rust.

LOL, for a minute there, it sounded like the goal for today was to take the bike out and get it up to 106! But then, that wouldn't be nothing. :)

Hah, just noticed that.  I wonder if the bike will even do 106mph.  I have only been to about 90-95mph and not much left on the tach.  17/48 and 16inch rim.

Yesterday my 750 K3 got a new TT100 rear tire and tube, along with a good cleaning session to the chain, chainguard, and swingarm. Today I rode to the Dentist and back, so with hot oil I changed it (filter too) with fresh Rotella 15-50.  Ready to ride to the Rocker Box street festival and bike show in Milwaukee tomorrow and greet Lefty on his arrival from Omaha.

Scored a gorgeous set of gauges for a fair price for my '76 XS650 from Chris at Limeybikes.
They're about as nice as they could be. Nice of him to let them go. :)

Rode her up to a small gathering in Carmel, Indiana.  A guy posted an ad on CL inviting ppl to meet up and 10 or 15 showed up.  There's another monthly meet here in town thats been going on for a few yrs that draws big crowds and these seemed to be some folks I have never met there and a few bikes I've never seen around before.  Good times.

Here's my orange 550 among the group...

Great night for a ride!

Despite a forecast of rain and cold weather, it was actually a nice sunny day, so I decided to replace the clutch hub on my Suzuki GS1000. The clutch (and transmission) is gear driven from the crank, and the clutch hub tries to separate itself from the primary gear after a few thousand miles. I had one that had been repaired with nice tight cush springs and rivets, and a crack had been tig welded also.

I installed everything, fired it up, and straight away it made a hell of a clatter. I stripped it back down again, and it was obvious that the weld bead was hitting something, so I ground a couple of mm off it, and started to re-install it. Just then I was mobbed by a bunch of young women from "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" who ostensibly wanted to chat about Jesus, but actually seemed more interested in my motorcycles, so they all sat there and watched me rebuild my clutch.

I put everything back together and fired it up, and they all clapped and cheered when I told them that they'd all helped me fix it, and they seemed genuinely happy that my clutch was no longer rattling. I put all my tools away and explained that I had to test ride it, so they (almost reluctantly) excused themselves after a group prayer of thanks to God for giving me the skills to fix my troublesome clutch, and invited me to a Sunday night get-together. Most of them were fairly attractive, but I Just couldn't imagine that their idea of a "get-together" would involve drinking and debauchery, so I declined. All in all though, not a bad day. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Ha ha, when I started typing this I realised that I should have taken a group pic Dave, but maybe next time, their church isn't far from here, and because I didn't tell them to fcuk off, they'll probably be back. A couple of them were carrying pretty weighty looking bibles, but they weren't looking all that interested in opening them, maybe they were just there for their personal protection? ;D

Well I think that goes without saying Pete, I am one good looking rooster for sure, but I was taken slightly aback when one of them told me that I reminded her of her recently deceased favorite grandfather? I felt a bit like a pedo for thinking less than Christian thoughts about her and her friends after that comment........ ;D
