I'm trying to get Ken's K1 finished and out of my garage, it's been here way too long, but anyway, it's almost done. Today, one of the "finishing jobs" was to install a Dyna 2000 ignition. Why a Dyna 2000? Not my bloody idea mate, I'd already installed a Dyna S but Ken said, no, he wanted me to install the 2000.
The box said that it was for a CB750, but the rotor wouldn't fit over the threaded 6mm shaft at the end of the crank, what the fcuk? OK, so I chucked the rotor in my lathe and (slightly) bored it out. Weird. The coils that came with it are 3 Ohm "mini coils" that don't fit the OEM brackets. Great, more lathe time turning up alloy spacers and special bolts.........
The Dyna leads come as one length of 8mm silicon lead with a plug boot on either end. As much as I hated installing the coils I liked that they came with special right angle caps that crimp onto the leads using the special crimping tool I bought, which look very neat compared to the ones that come with Dyna's regular coils.
I still haven't finished wiring it up and I'm scratching my head as to where to mount the "blue box". This is a very original 5000 mile K1 that Ken imported from the US, so I don't want the box mounted where it'll be seen, where is everyone mounting their boxes?
Anyway, all I have to do now is finish wiring the ignition, mount the headlight bucket and re-connect about a million wires, give it an oil and filter change, replace all the cables, and it's done. It's Sunday night here and he's picking it up next Saturday evening, I really don't know if I'm gonna get it done, so wish me luck! Cheers, Terry.
