Nice! And a nice clean F3 to go with it. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yesterday:  took her for a spin and run out of gas, made it home on reserve.  The second brake is acting up - i.e. binding -  replaced pads and hope for the best.

Took the 550 out for a few mile ride to moms house - helped her prep for our pre-xmas gathering, stole some of the ham and made a sandwich, then rode back home in the 35 or so degree weather.  But it was sunny and dry, and a lovely ride.  The streets were nearly bare :)

nice tank mate! ;D

I ordered a pair of these suckers for my Honda CX500. The little "Twisted V Twin"s exhaust is really restrictive, and even though I've bored it out somewhat, I'm still not happy.

I've got some 34mm Mikuni race carb kits on their way, and with these mufflers and and straight thru exhaust system that I'm making, I'm hoping to pick up a 20% increase in HP, and a much more enjoyable throttle (not to mention "Aural") response! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Took the bike out for a ride to my buddy's place.  Tried to get some carb sync done with hoses filled with oil method.  Got no where with it. May be carb sync gauge is on shopping list.

Took her for a spin and to fill her up.  Seems like new brake pads fixed the right brake binding, she is rolling easily.

I pulled the 400's motor out of its frame. Actually, it was more a case of lifting the frame off of the motor. Until I read this thread, http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=44767.0, I thought that the sump had to come off. No, there is just enough room for the frame to clear the motor.

I assume that Honda's engineers designed in enough clearance to make the bike easier (and faster) to assemble.

Next stop: the powder-coater's.

Installed my new set of chrome gauge covers (thanks Santa! ;) ).  They sure do dress up these sad, old gauges.

If we weren't experiencing a nasty snow storm today, I'd take it out for a ride.   :(

I took my Triumph TT600 into Peter Stephen's motorcycle service centre in the city this morning and they gave the bike a safety check and installed the latest version of the map. Wow - what a difference! The throttle now works as it should - like a rheostat - not an on/off switch. The bike is smoother, torquier and the exhaust even sounds deeper - cool!

Meanwhile - in Hondaland...

This afternoon my next CB450 front fender arrived from the USA via Fed-Ex (I think it got washed up on an island with Tom Hanks for a while, it took so long to get here). See my other bikes thread (runcible racer) for today's stuff up.

Meanwhile - in SOHCfour land...

I have a lead on an old 500/4 sitting in a shed down in Bairnsdale, through the father in law of my brother in law. I could soon have a legitimate excuse to post on this forum!

(Only reason I would buy a 500/4 is so I can continue to hang out here and not feel out of place).

Bairnsdale (my home town) is full of old bikes in sheds Cliff, one day I'm gonna do something about that........  ;)

'Twas a red letter day today, my 34mm Mikuni Carb kit for my little CX500 arrived from the US! I was wondering what I was going to do with myself today, so when the delivery lady banged on the door at 0730 with the carb kit, my fate was sealed. Luckily for me, the wife had to run some errands, so wasn't hanging around when I opened the box and drooled all over the new carbs, manifolds etc.

Stinking hot weather though, and I would have been happy if it only took 25 - 30 minutes to fit like everyone else on the CX/GL forums has said it took them. I guess they'd already removed the OEM airbox, which probably added an hour or so to the job? What a PITA!

Anyway, Murray Feldman's (the builder of the kit) stuff was easy to install, and was really excellent workmanship. The amazing thing for me was, as I worked off my vague memories of the instructions that Murray posted on the US CX/GL site, was just how easy the whole process was. And once I'd reinstalled my tank and seat, let the float bowls fill with fuel, engage both chokes and hit the button, it fired right up!

Being a warm day the choke wasn't needed for very long, and the engine just ticked over at 1000 RPM without a miss, fart, or burp. My pod filters haven't arrived from Mikes XS yet, and I had nothing in the garage that I could use, so I was only game to take it for a ride around the block before I took some pics, and put it back in the garage. Fair enough too, I was dirty, hot, sunburned and I stunk, and all I wanted was a cool shower and a cooler beer.

As you can see in the pics it's a nice looking setup, but I'll have to cut some material out of the sidecovers to make the pods fit behind them. The sidecovers themselves are held in place by plastic cable ties, as is the battery, for the time being. Once I get the pods I can work out where everything needs to be mounted, and I can make some more conventional brackets.

Next project? Replacing the camchain driven fan with an electronic Kawasaki 600 Ninja item I bought on Ebay this morning. Cheers, Terry.  happy0062

Santa rocked up today with a new fuel tank and side covers from Yamiya Japan.
It only took 5 days from Japan to Darwin via Sydney and that's not too bad I reckon.

The quality and finish is excellent and I cannot fault it.
You do pay a premium for it and you do get a premium product.

There's a picture of the backside of one of the side covers and I don't know if they are one of Joes or not but it looks to be quite durable.
I fitted KO emblems to the tank with the black HONDA where the later ones had a white inlay for the HONDA.
It just a personal preference thing but I think that the black sits better against the silver paint.

If I was you
I'd be worried about me.

I'm going to split the cases on my kids 750 today so I can replace the cam and primary chain. While cleaning up the gunk around the sprocket I noticed a PO must've thrown a chain and knocked a hole in the lower half of the case at some point because it's clearly evident the lower half of the case has been welded up near the sprocket.
