Fired up the 750, battery is shot, need a new one....is charging, lights are bright, but the battery won't hold a charge.

Rode it to the end of the cal-de-sac....and back...parked it for a little while longer.

Need to change a fork seal, and want to change front steering to all balls rollers by spring.
If it ain't raining, I'm riding.....~~{iii}?~~prost

If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I cut and pasted from someone else.

"Dug" the 836 out of the sea of ferns in my garage! Have freezing temps at night so my wife brings in her beloved ferns into the garage. Can't tell but there are three SOHC Hondas in there...

Explored a road down to a new local marina....

We're still in a drought and the "river" is pretty low. Great day for riding though...

Nice pics Steve! I installed the Mike's XS filters on my new Mikuni 34mm carbs on my CX500 yesterday, and while I think they look quite good and (happily) they fit around the other items behind the sidecovers with no "re-modeling" required, I decided to re-install the OEM sidecovers, and using cable ties, was able to make them fit around the carbs with the air filters installed, with no cutting required. Good Stuff!

I also installed a new pair of Mike's XS handlebars, they're replicas of the original Yamaha TX650 bars, which are similar to "Dirt Track" handlebars, high and wide, with steel slugs welded in the ends to reduce vibration. Much nicer than the OEM Honda CX500 Custom bars, which are horrible. Sadly the battery in my camera went flat, but I'll take a pic later today. Cheers, Terry.  happy0159

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Nice clean install, Uncle Terry. Nothing like a nice Mikuni, too. BTW, why werent Mikunis ever used on SOHC's?

Thanks Steve, I'm guessing that Honda either owns Keihin, or has a large investment in their products? Murray Feldman in Lexington NC is the worlds greatest CX/GL "expert" (I just got off the phone with him actually) and he does Mikuni kits for all of Honda's "Twisted V Twins", plus Goldwings and DOHC 4's.

I've asked him to do a twin carb conversion for the SOHC 750's, but he said that CycleX have already done it, and anyway, there are no performance benefits therein. I suppose you could mount 4 28mm Mikuni's on a CB750, but the price would be so close to some 29mm CR's, that the CR's would be a better buy. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Terry, your looking in the wrong places for Mikuni's.  Over here snowmobiles use VM34's, you can P/U a good used one for $50. ;)  There were 2 on the sidecar (x-snowmobile) that I replaced with the Weber.  Already sold one for use on a P1 200 vintage racer.

Thanks Brian, Murray builds the kits for installing VM34 Mikuni's on CX and GL500/650's. There's a lot more to it than just buying the carbs, he makes the manifolds, rejets the carbs, makes the special "1 into 2" cables, fuel "T"s, etc.

He's done a heap of dyno work to get the manifolds just the right length, and the result is a 20-25% increase in BHP with a freer flowing exhaust. All of the above cost me 550 bucks, which I reckon is good value, considering the work Murray has put into them! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Went to pull out my flasher unit from the 750 to go get a replacement, as last time I rode it they had stopped working - all the globes were working, but no blinking, seemed obvious to me.
Thought I'd just re-test it first before I removed it - bike on, indicators....no problems, merrily flashing away.....problem solved! haha. ;D
Wish everything was that easy....the 400 has no lhr blinker, me thinks easy, it's the globe, swap globe to other side to double check, mmmmm, working fine, so must be in the wiring somewhere or the earth for that lhr blinker....more investigation required. ::)

The "Low Beam" on my CX500 hasn't worked since I bought it, so I swapped it out today. I had some that my oldest son left me when he moved out, so I thought one of them would do well.

It was only when I checked the dead one that I realised that the replacement would be disappointing, the PO had installed a 80/100W halogen globe! Oh well, the 55/60W I put back in will have to do until I buy a bigger one............ ;D

Fcuk that mate, as soon as it gets dark I'm in my underground bunker, surrounded by garlic and wolfsbane! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Took off the front caliper on my k4 today as the front brake wouldnt retract.  Banged on the caliper with a rubber mallet yo open her up and then cleaned the hell out of the inside.  The piston was in good shape but there was a lot of crud behind the seal and some the rubber had some minor pitting.  Just need to order some new pads, a seal, and am thinking about a speed bleeder from none other than "Speed  Bleeder."

Waited the hangover out and the sun to come out and took the K4 out for a New Years ride.
A little chilly at 48* but felt great to get out.
Happy SOHC New Year!

Thanks and yes, original Boss Maroon, and the 836 runs fantastic!
Unfortunately, my least favorite Honda color but will be painting your old tank Polynesian Blue for this bike. Can't bring myself to paint over the original since in such good shape. Also plan to restore the front end and rechrome the Action Four mufflers this winter.

Stopped by the garage and rotated the battery tenders.  SIGH.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Once the fog lifted, and most of the frost was off the lawns, I gave her a quick wipe down, filled her up, and rode to break in the new year.  It was sunny and 36F around Seattle.   8)
