Lots of times bikes can idle and rev nicely on the sidestand but problems don't rear their ugly heads until the bike is going down the road in gear and under a 'load'.

Mine was doing the same thing when I got it put back together. First thing I would do is double check your installation. Carb clamps and such.

Are you running with the air box installed? Mine has a miss in the same rpm range when I test with open carbs.

Other things I have found rebuilding an old bike. Make sure the spark advance unit is moving properly, and make sure the screen on the fuel Petcock is clear. I thought I had cleaned every speck of crud out of the tank and still I'm getting rust on that silk like screen in the tank.

Just some ideas....

I'm going to try 91 octane fuel tomorrow instead of the 98 I've had in the tank.

What I don't get is how it revs cleanly sitting still, but misses on a ride. Will try the fuel tomorrow and see what happens.

the coils are the only thing different to from how it ran on his test bench in the shop. Slug

For starters get the bike off that diet of half way race gas that would be the first and easiest to do for the bike and your wallet. 98 is much too high for the bike as is

Most bikes and cars, rly anything will rev and be great in neutral bc of the no load factor. As soon as you have load they crap out. Ever had a bad fuel pump that the car would start but wouldn't do anything?

Check resistance of the coils and spark plug caps. Also a badly ran/kinked fuel line or crappy fuel filter or clogged in tank filter will hurt performance. Remember they are gravity fed

Switched to clip-ons rather than clubmans. They are lower but further back- net effect seems like I am more upright. Oil change too- weather is getting better!

I got my bike running for the first time. Only for a few seconds till the starter fluid burned out.  That few seconds of sound was enough to put a big #$%* eating grin on my face though.  Didn't clean carbs well enough im guessing.  Gas is not getting out of the float bowls.  So I guess time to pull the carbs again and re-clean them.  Also cleaned and gapped the points.

Rode it for the first time after spending 18 months rebuilding it from the ground up.

See my Runcible Racer thread in the 'other bikes' section for video.

Took the cover off of both of them and sat on them. Noticed that my caliper is leaking on the 750. The piston and seal were new last year so maybe I didn't clean the seal area well enough?

Dave,

Ride 'er for a few trips before messing too much with ur float.  Its amazing how vibration can make parts fit better!!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

It sat for a couple years before I got it so I am figuring there is a build up in them. I will give it a try though. No title on this yet so I got to be careful.

Took the ol girl out today for the first ride of 2013. Biggest improvement over last year was the valve adjustment. After warming it up for the first ten miles. I headed down a country road and opened it UP! Before, the bike would start to float the valves at 8K, this motor roared to 8.5K and was still pulling when I laid off it...
How hard do you all push your mills? This was the first time I have EVER exceeded the 8K red zone "area" of the Tach by the way...
