Yep, that's a kick in the nuts for sure Dave, I'm not into bike shows because I don't have the patience to build anything that would win a show, but if I did, and built a bike as nice as that, I'd go postal, grab my nine, and go around to the judges house and make him reconsider............. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

or send me around and ride a dax through hes house?we had a "communual" one we couldnt kill for years,we finally snapped its frame in half!even though we had proper enduro bikes we took it camping most times,it went anywhere, its head was touched up and wide dirt bike bars fitted, not like that poofy one at a bloody show.

It's all very subjective ,and I suppose it depends on the criterea .For what it's worth, I'd have gone for your's mate, for two reasons , No 1  , your bike is a" one off "which has taken lots of time and money to build to a high standard , and No2 the Monkey Bike just looks like a nice standard bike to me  . ::)

Yeah. There were two of those bikes. 1 took first and the other took second. I think they choose them over mine was because its a antique and vintage bike show and the judges are purist. So they took the perfectly restored mini bikes over a custom job. Even though you can just go online and buy every part for that bike new. What it comes down to is that they need to split the class if they are going to have one for cafe racers. I emailed them about it.

Anyway, in the spirit of the thread. My bike was leaking from the oil filter. Its a known problem that the aftermarket filters have thinner o rings. The one that was leaking was a honda but the spare ones i have are emgo. I measure the o ring gland at 3.97 mm deep i believe. The o ring was like 3.92mm thick. So it does absolutely nothing. So since the emgos are cheaper and thats what i had for a gasket. I threw a spare housing up on the mill and shaved it down to the appropriate depth for that o ring. Back on the bike and no leak.

Well since I was hit by a car 3 weeks ago I took the opportunity to do a few things aside from fixing the damage to the bike.

I bought new fork tubes, progressive springs, polished the fork lowers and installed gators.  I also decided to flip the bars around.
Rides much better now that my forks don't bottom out on all the crappy roads here in Michigan.

Here she is today.

Just back from bit of a ride to Famous Sam's resturant and bike meet.

Installed emblems on newly painted side covers from our own Frankenfurterkickasschickendance guy. They're great. I tried a blue but it wasn't a perfect match and that looked odd so I went with satin black.

New oil and filter, air filter, fork oil (ATF), cam chain tensioner adjusted.

Still need to install a new drive chain, do valve clearance settings, carb sync, and steering head bearings, but it runs great even now.

Ive known people that called doing that a hack job. "No real talent involved" theyd say. I however always was a fan of doing a hard tail that way.

Bike looks bad ass though. Very well done

Just back from bit of a ride to Famous Sam's resturant and bike meet.....

Haven't been to the Famous Sam's Sunday meet since I moved down to Kingston.  Always a nice collection of bikes show up.  Any chance you might get down to Shannonville for the VRRA Vintage races June 1/2??

Not my bike but my friends '72 CB350 twin..
Charged the battery, flushed the tank, cleaned the air filters, petcock, and carbs... set the timing, and float height. Put it all back together and viola... she's a runner.

Thank you sir... that'll cost you one '73 CB350G  :)
Well.... that was his idea :) I like it.

A simple project bike for me and my 2nd oldest Jessy... home from college for the summer.
Gonna fix it up and it's hers. She can drive herself back to classes... with class.  8)

Got the cases together...with all the inside bits included!  The catalyst for the tear down is now complete; new primary chain installed.  Now I'm working on figuring out what I'm going to do about the bent valves and broken valve guide I discovered in the process.  Turns out that oil burning in number four was not just a bad seal.

I do that on a regular basis. It's about the time when I can't find the tool I just set down that I realize I haven't had lunch and its 4 o'clock.

Changed my 400F to some Hagon shocks. Finally some decent performance, though they are no Koni/Ikons  :)

They are 1 inch shorter... I hope that's okay? Or do I need to travel the front shock either?

After

(And yes, the side covers are painted badly... It's only makeshift ;) )

the hagons are good, but they look too short for your bike.  do they bottom out with you on it?
i hope you dont plan on doing any 2-up riding  :o

I don't know, I didn't notice anything like that on my first ride. Maybe as I'm a small guy (60kg) but maybe also because the springs are stiffer than the stock ones.

And the changed perspective on the after picture also makes the difference look bigger than it is in reality. Though 1 inch is not nothing... :/
