Painted the engine. I am torn on the clutch and alternator covers. I had polished the left side cover, but I can't decide if I want to polish them or paint. I suppose I will have to polish because I can't have just one polished cover. I haven't painted the valve cover yet. I'm going to remove it tomorrow and paint it separately.

Break that paint in easy Dan with a few easy warm ups when the time comes. You too though will experience a little stink before its done like the post above. ;)

Thanks Eric. I may get it in the frame tomorrow, but it will be a while before I try to start it.

Installed a Don Vesco Rabid Transit fairing on my 77CB750F. Didn't finish the install, I still need to work out some wiring and other minor issues I but rode it home from the shop, 3 miles. Stoked!
So much to do, so little time.

I am really glad I decided to do the CBR600 swap on this bike. Honda should have done something like this instead of discontinuing the CB40of
they did...cbr400rr.  Oh...and teal is the gayest color possible.

Beautiful change and looks like excellent work.   Do you have plans for the shocks that were on the original bike?...Larry

Hi MoMo,

Mocked up everything on the front end to make sure it is all ready to go. I need to pull the fork legs and put another coat of Candy Teal to darken them to match the calipers. I am really glad I decided to do the CBR600 swap on this bike. Honda should have done something like this instead of discontinuing the CB400f.

They didn't discontinue the CB400....you guys just don't get to have them or buy them.

We have the very nice CB400 here in Australia

You mean they still make it in Australia, I think not. As far as I know production ceased after 1977 and the bike was not available anywhere after that. Do you know otherwise?

How was that swap? What all was required? I have some F2 parts lying around and seriously considered giving it a go.

Took me awhile to figure out your post, then I realized you put a question in the middle of my quote.

AllBalls fork swap bearing kit and a spacer for the lower race is all that is needed up front. Extensive modifications in the rear to move the wheel to the left and then the sprocket to the right. Requires a lot of machining and spacers made. You'll need to figure out what speedo drive you want. Sprocket changes are likely in order. A 120 is as large as you can go with that wheel on that frame.

The CBR400RR bears no resemblance to the CB400f at all. The CB400f was discontinued in 1977 and the CBR400R didn't come out till 9 years later, the CBR400RR didn't show until 1988.
So what are you saying, the color is right up your alley, right?

They did. Honda have always had a 400cc variant, they just didn't export them all to the US. This is the 2011 CB400 ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I clearly posted about the CB400F that was discontinued after 1977. I'm sorry anyone misunderstood that. It was a full 6 years that Honda did not have a 400 four cylinder in their line up.

So what? Honda stopped production of pretty much all of their "Across the frame" four cylinder bikes in the early 1980's in favour of their ill fated "VF" (Vee Four) series of bikes, which of course included a 400cc variant. As soon as they went back to "across the frame" fours again, they built a 400. ;D

apologies for offending you with the Teal dig...I just saw too many Teal, yellow, and pink pro-streeters back in the '80's to not have to say something about that awful color, I think we can both agree that looks come second to performance anyway?...no similarities? to me they are both small, lightweight, sportbikes, that get their performance from revving to the moon...the cbr400rr is just a more modern version
If it works good, it looks good...

Sean, I'm not keeping the bike. It'll sell to some hipster who just thinks it's the cats meow. I had originally planned on a metallic orange first but was using this color on some other parts and decided to just use it here. The frame and other parts are all Pearl White and will contrast nicely.  When I called you the "I" word I forgot I was not on one of the more forgiving forums I frequent. I was immediately reprimanded and my post was edited. This bike was given to me and I now fully understand the phrase "There is nothing more expensive than a free motorcycle". Actually this one is not that bad. I'll have around $1800 in when I done and it should fetch in the $3k neighborhood if not more in my area.
