I changed wheel bearings for the very first time today. It was a little difficult to get the bearings in, but it was no where near as daunting of a task as I thought it would be thanks to the information on this forum.

All Balls bearings, new retainer, dust seal, speedo gearbox (correct name?) seal, stainless steel serrated flange nuts for the disk. And what isn't there yet and quite honestly my favorite part is a countersunk stainless steel allen screw for the speedo cable. Life just got a whole lot easier.

Today I sold her to the insurance company.  The buyout was generous, so I opted to move on and focus on recovering.  Even though she had a really nice paint job and lots of nice shiny bits, etc, she wasn't anything terribly special as far as cb550s go.....but I loved her and will miss her much.  It wasn't until I signed the title that I realized I had put 10k miles on her over the last couple of years.  Good times and good folks along the road.

Farewell trusty cb....

Found out the newest 550 I got has a hacked to hell wire harness. I almost flipped out... nothing was cut in the headlight bucket or under the coils... All behind the electrical panel....

Had my wife and Stev-o slap some sense into me.... now I have a nice tank and side covers to sell and have a nice cafe project lined up.

With the blue 550 I removed the swing arm and put the best one on, new rear rim with new tire, removed the front end and installed tapered bearings..... tomorrow I will polish the forks and reassemble

My youngest has scheduled to have his cbr600 on a dyno tomorrow mainly to see what his fuel curve is on his carbs. If they can fit me in I'll put my 550 on the dyno too, I'd like to see how well or badly tuned my carbs are too because guessing at jet size changes doesn't appeal to me and if I remember I might bring the vid cam along too to record it. I'll let you know the results later.

Farewell trusty cb....

What a great pic! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Finished up the 550..... Put on a new nos seat... still have the honda logo somewhat faded. Superbike bars installed. Forks polished and redone with new seals.  Installed the original exhaust. I put on the blue tank and side covers while the maroon one is being cleaned.

Just got back from a dyno pull on the 550 and it only put out around 40hp but the exhaust sniffer showed why, the carbs air/fuel ratio was literally off the charts too rich. I can't remember exactly what size main jets are in it now but I do know they're larger than stock I think around 10 sizes larger so I'm going to do some searching for jets around 5 sizes smaller than what's in it now. Just have to pull a float bowl off to confirm what size is in it now. The guy running the dyno said it would probably put out close to 50 with the right jets but we'll see.
