Looks good Dave.  Well I sold the set of old CR31's I had for $1500 so that should help me get my butt on a bike a bit sooner if life will get out of the way for a while, I'm expecting the car to blow up or something  :o 8) ;)

Doing a major shop renovation/purge and decided to scrap out this 1976 750 block that's just been sitting around with a broken engine mount. Half hour later she is spilling her guts and telling me her secrets. This one told me she needed to go to the dentist with all her broken teeth. That gear had two teeth broke in three different places around its circumference. Drat no minty tranny there.  Last pic is where all cracked and broken Vetters go to die  :'(

Managed to get the forks off the frame yesterday. Time for some serious rust containment.

Hey Eric!

Before you pitch that engine into the river, I'm looking for part #1 on this fiche (or is it FISH already? ;D )

Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I have spent the last couple of days taking the rattlecan paint the PO had sprayed the frame with off with thinner and a rag. Why do people do things like that ??? I`m about halfway around the bike and the original paint that is under the spray paint is in great shape. I have found a few small scratches but nothing to warrant painting the whole frame  ::) they painted nuts, bolts and anything that was in the way. Should finish it up tonite.

Won`t the aircraft remover strip it all the way to raw metal? I`m just tasking it back to original paint or whatever Honda put on it. The original is in great shape I don`t know why the PO rattlecanned it.

Aircraft stripper is mean stuff, stick to laquer thinner/paint thinner, something like that. The rattlecan will come right off

OldSchool he isn't stripping the frame, more like "restoring"

You are more than welcome Bruce to come on down and pick the bones of a couple engines I am parting out. Like a good boy or a hoarder I am trying to save all of the "good stuff". Be warned though if you stop down it may involve "heavy lifting" unless you wait till I'm done.  ;D   PS-Bring your paint brush  ;)

Unfortunately I put my 550 to bed for the winter. Parked it in the garage, filled the tank with real gasoline and Stabil, drained the bowls and sprayed some lube in them. Pulled the battery and put it on a trickle charger.

*sigh* another long wet winter. Hopefully we get some good snow in the mountains!

Below is a SAT image of the PNW. Looks like a hurricane from space. Feels like a hurricane at the moment. Not good for riding!

Finally got around to replacing all the o rings around the oil pump on the 550 today. Woo Hoo! All sealed up & no more leaks, well except for the oil path bung on the r/h side of the lower case. That can come later.
I know the o ring sizes have been discussed to death, but I wonder why 46x2 is so popular to seal the cover? The boss on the pump measures 44mm so that's what I used. Sat on there like it was meant to be there & just slipped the cover onto it.  ;D

Plugs-plugs-plugs for my CB750
« Reply #15870 on: November 08, 2013, 03:31:46 AM »
When I started the bike for the first time since 33 years I came into the carb jetting, ignition setting and plug fouling business. Worse than ever when my old VM29's work different in the new setup with CB750 OEM carb boots.
Now demanding the jets that it should use, before a "little" bit too large.

I fouled some plugs direct, new NGK Iridiums and used D8EA from 1988. Ignition is now OK and jetting almost OK.
I read posts here about plugs and a new factor for my bike, the bad gasoline of today. I hope that Shell V-Power gas will be OK

I have now new NGK D8EA, ordered 8 plugs more of same kind + 8 Denso X24ES-U + 16 good old NGK DR8ES-L. Have I missed any old fav plug? ;)

I remember that I fouled Nippon Denso after a few minutes recommended by my local tuner 28 years ago, installed NGK that worked direct and all days after that. It might have been D8ES or D8ES-L or DR8ES-L

Let's see which plug works best when my jetting is complete?
I might need to buy more CB750's (69-76) for my plugs.

Ethanol fuel isn't good for our bikes mate, but there's not much ethanol in our fuel, which is good. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Did this yesterday, removed all electrical components down to the harness. Cleared up some space in the garage to rig up a second workbench to begin work on the engine.
