Have you got a dremel tool Edward? I've had that problem a few times, so I fit a small cutting disc to my Dremel and cut a fairly deep slot in the head of the screw, then use a flat blade screwdriver bit in my impact screwdriver, and they come out every time. Cheers, Terry.

I do! and that is the idea I was playing with after some googling, but didn't want to make things worse so checked here with experts first. Thanks Terry!

Did absolutely nothing to my bike yesterday, but I did do this:

Had a great time, front row seats in the main grandstand! And wow, the sound of 20 Formula 1 cars at 200 MPH is something you will never forget.
We were very close...

Also checked out turn 3....

It wasnt much of a race but it was a hell of a party!
If you ever get a chance to go, do it.

Put new levers on (black to match the bike, I thought they were cool and i was already at dime city so why not) mounted my speedo and tach, hooked up the speedo cable (waiting for a tach cable) didn't wire any of it in yet just needed SOMETHING for the time being so I know how fast I'm going when no one is around me.

Planning on getting a stock back wheel, euro bars, and stock airbox for the next stage of my bike. then it's on to the cosmetic things.

Saw a cool 450 dohc cafe at the dime city lobby. (Brass cafe I think it was called?) took a bad picture of it. need to take a better one next time im over.

view from the cockpit with the gauges on. Planning on doing a tune up soon because It's popping on high revs and its topping out at like 80 mph. hopefully I can get a new airbox before then.

Terry, your FJ should have a 17" front. Yamaha changed the front to 17" in '88. That's part of why I went looking for an '88 or newer when I bought mine. If I were going to buy another it would be a '90 or '91 since there is a really nice sport touring screen available for that last couple years model.

Thanks Danny, mine's an '87 (1XW?) with 16 inch wheels. I used to really like the 3 spoke 17 inch wheels that were on just about everything for 20 years, but I actually like these ones more, plus these ones are only 3 and 4 years old, so I don't need to refurbish them, they (and their tyres) still look like new.

Over here it appears that FJ1200 owners are like BMW owners, they don't like to part with their bikes, so I had to take what I could get, or I might have gone for a later one. No matter, it will look cool when done. Cheers, Terry.

I added a new 7in light bucket with a h4 45/45 bulb. I made my own bracket extender to make it fit with the stock light bracket. Could not find one to fit the stock bucket. Changed brake lines to stainless, what a pain that was. This I'm not sure of I found a hole in my muffler and filled it with exhaust puddy. Hope it holds till I get a new muffler

Chrome bucket is metal and the lense is a Candlepower. I bought both at Youngstown Cycle in Boardman Oh. They deal in after market parts for the old bikes. They have some real nice bikes there.

Thanks guys, I used a GL1000 bucket that I had re-chromed, on my gold CB750, the bucket was quite shallow and looked good in that application, but I like that one too. Cheers, Terry.

Re-reassembled my engine that I had finished a week ago. It started up easily and sounded good but I had an instant dripping head gasket unfortunately.

I tore it down, took the head off, helicoiled two cam bearing cap threads and buttoned everything back up after going up to 18 ft lbs for the engine studs. 15 ft lbs last time barely even got it to seal at all, I didn't even really see any witness marks on the gasket.

I also made my own valve cover gasket after it tore on a cover dowel. I'm dangerous with scissors and a marker

I should be able to start it monday, hopefully it goes smoothly. Again.

Yeah mate, 15 foot pounds is BS, I read a CB750 rebuild article back in the 1980's in a book I've got called "Great Bikes of the 70's" where they recommended slowly torqueing the head in small increments to 19 foot pounds, leaving it overnight, loosening the nuts and re-torqueing it before you install the engine back in the frame.

I've done this ever since. I take 'em up to 20 foot pounds because my torque wrench is marked in 2 foot pounds increments, and I've never busted a stud or had a leak. Cheers, Terry.

Yeah I was hesitant to leave it there but I really had trouble dredging up a solid consensus on the torque. I had seen some guys say 18 but also so plenty at ~15. I didn't want to bust a stud or pull threads so I erred on the cautious side.

I looked at a bunch of build threads and guys always seem to leave out this step somehow, unless they break a stud

I did a ghetto retorque, I waited and a couple hours later after other crap I retorqued to 18. I'm tired of looking at a huge doorstop so I bolted it all together. It goes in tomorrow

use one of these lens/inserts terry,they have a good proper focus and nice clear non milky glass,they dont have the parker lamp though.
