Sent my 750 K1 tins in for paint. I'm real nervous about it as I usually do most of my own work. Painter has been spraying bikes since 1969. Painting it the original Candy Gold. I may have the bike ready in early June after a 2.5 year build. Here's hoping it turns out!

That's a nice looking head you've got there Georg, I've got a K0 cylinder block that's been bored to 836 and a set of Wiseco pistons coming out, and even though I was going to keep the bike fairly original no-one will see the bigger pistons, so they'll probably just assume that the legends about K0's are all true, and they are faster than the later models.........

Maybe a 10 minute soak in RIT, and then another 15 with a 320 grit sanding buff attached to my dremel. Done.

Stainless? $50+? I dunno $:-\$

Mine are ugly. I'm gonna try this.

I received my exhaust from DSS today, didnt take long to get here. I'm going to wait for the weather to warm up then install it on my CB400F.

I bought an exhaust today - finally found a good set of Hooker headers with muffler for a CB450.

Plus I got a pair of Ceriani 35mm forks in the mail, and a pair of 74mm pistons for the CB450 - a good day.

Fixed leak on #4 carb bowl (cheap over sized o rings). Re-sync carbs and check timing. Then went to dmv to get title and tag. I cant wait to ride tomorrow...

unscrewed all the plug caps off my 550F, checked the resistance - they were all just under 5Kohms (then checked all 11 other plug caps in my possesion- all 5K cept the one new one -10K) dunno what I had set wrong on my analogue multi meter last time I measured these but I'm happy with the readings today! Then I checked the coil wires for continuity 1-4 and 2-3 they passed(both 15Kohms)

Finally got all the parts needed and phillps heads out of the cover. Got the kicker on and ready to take apart clutch while the cover is off.

Installed my new "shorty" rear shocks, on my K3. Really lowered it, combined with new -1" front forks. looks good.

I used my bike as support for some crown molding I was cutting. I thought to take a pic. Chop saw was on a table where the bed was about the same height as the top of the tank. Don't worry, I had a sweatshirt on top.

Yesterday I stripped the front end off the '77 GL1000 roller that's been sitting here for over a year sans engine, with the intent of using it on my CB750. Luckily for me, the GL forks have Progressive springs in them, but the old alloy air caps were pretty badly weathered.

I hunted around my garage and found a NOS of S&W Air caps for some unknown forks with the right thread, but the threaded portion was around 6mm too short, and even though I could screw them in a couple of turns, it wasn't enough.

I chucked the fork tubes in my lathe and machined off 6mm from the top of each tube, and Voila! The caps are a good fit.

The're not the best forks I've seen, but after I cleaned them up with some 800 grit wet and dry paper and WD40, I removed any rust and high spots (someone had clamped them in a vise and gouged them in their 37 year history) and they should work fine. Good news is that they're both straight.

I also stripped the paint off the calipers and triples, and I'll give them a coat of paint tomorrow. Cheers, Terry.

Finally ordered the last of the used caliper/brackets I needed for upgrading the '77 to a dual piston style calipers. Purchases have been slow because of finances and progress has been slow because of the COLD AS FREAK WEATHER! Between snow, ice, cold -repeat, I haven't set a hand on the bike in a month or three.

Battery tray, center stand, swingarm stripped and ready for paint.
Triples installed on frame w all balls kit.
Vapor rebreather emptied of mayo. Cleaned and rebuilt.

Misc nuts and bolts, brackets, engine mounts.....treated in PrepNEtch.
5 min is all most parts need. Love this stuff!!!

I'd never heard of it so I checked it out online, Prep N Etch is phosphoric acid, and is great for removing rust from steel, I use in gas tanks before I seal them, it's great for cleaning up chrome etc. Just be careful leaving any cast iron or "potmetal" (petcocks, blinker bodies etc) in it, it'll dissolve them very quickly.

I left a set of 836cc cylinder sleeves in a bucket of phosphoric acid overnight, and next morning they were just a stain in the bottom of the bucket, and another time I put a tank in a tub of the stuff and my petcock disappeared, all that was left was the copper tube..........

Terry. This stuff works wonders on tank interiors when light rust has taken over. Too long and you might spring a leak. Leaves a light grey phosphorus coating.
And yes, 5 min at full strength was all that was needed to remove years of corrosion.
No scrubbing needed

Replaced starter clutch as it was stuffed. Managed to torque the rotor bolt with help from next door and got both alternator and gear shift cover back on. Tomorrow's job it to put the cam and towers in and hopefully button up the top.

Removed some of the excessive carbon build up on the replacement head last night, hoping to finish it soon. Between work, home and bike, I'm losing track of time. Then I saw this and cheered up

- that scooter is called piggy, because it looks like one
- it was made in Czechoslovakia
- they speak Czech in the commercial
- I worked for that company in Prague - T-Mobile - before moving to USA
