comstar style forks instead of spokes

uh oh....I've been planning a dual disk swap....how are these forks different? So you're saying I can't put my 80 comstar dual disk on my '74 forks?, if not, is it possible to pull the disks and speedo drive off that wheel and put them on my '74 spoke wheel? heh...guess it's not a thread-jacking...but thats some questions I didn't think needed asking....

pulled my Virago outta the storage, noticed my key wasn't in the switch, installed the new solenoid, cursed myself for not bringing the key, rolled it back inside, went home and remembered I had put my key on my keychain so it was in my pocket the whole time. eeerrrrrggggghhhh   CRS kickin in....

rode to school.  i got a lot of looks.  People were torn between admiration and wondering if I'd gone 'round the bend.

It was cold and wet and I had a ton of fun. :D

Took a few photos of my bike this morning(0 deg. F. !!)
And started her up 'till she was warm, and did doughnuts in the snow in my driveway.

Should have put the bike in last night......
Ya think?

I get that look a lot!  I love to ride in "non-traditional" bike weather.  The H-D guys and gals at work shake their head, but I know secretly they are jealous!

Decided to drop the oil pan to see what might be hiding in there. I have never dropped it when I change the oil. (don't ask why). Dang,  >:( who's idea was this again?
Why did Honda weld the bolts in there? I broke out the impact wrench and that made all the difference. No broken or stripped bolts or holes. Wow, gears look great.
(nice and clean)
Wow, look at all that crud in the bottom of the pan. looks like graphite paste.
My last 2 cans or carb cleaner later and some time spent at the drill press with a wire wheel everything shines like new. I found a good size roll of rubberized gasket material at the auto parts store to make new gaskets. (worked great) I did the clutch cover too because I think that's where the oil seep was. Used my last on hand filter and stink-en Wal-mart no longer sells the fram 6009/6012 I need.  >:(
Dang!!! I broke the kickstart bolt off. Well at least it broke where it's still holds the leaver tight so I can use it until I have to pull the clutch cover off again.
I guess the only way to remove it now is to get out Mr. Dremel and cut the bolt at the gap to remove the leaver so I can drill it out. Bummer.
Well that's it for me.
P.S. I did make a great little drain/catch pan out of beer cans so I can drain the float bowels without the gas going on the trans.
When in doubt drink another beer, it may help. ;D

While you had the pan off, did you look up at the oil pump filter screen?

Yes I sure did. I even took it off and gave it a good old carb. cleaning bath. Everything was very clean. I expected a lot more goo and stuff.
It was just the pan that needed the attention.
Even the filter and oil looked clear and clean like I just put it in, it was 6 or 7 months old and 300 or 400  miles on it.
I was too cheap and lazy to put fresh oil in it before I put her to sleep.
I usually get to ride during the winter on some days here in Texas.
I don't ride long trips just a lot of short ones an hour at most.
Time on the oil is my problem not milage.
I can't believe my Honda book says to change the oil every month or 600 miles. Motorcycle oil here is like $4.00+ per qt. here.

Great on the screen. That sounds excessive, misprint or misread maybe? Twice a year or 3000 miles seems better. Maybe 1500 miles?

Yesterday I did some research and decided that I want to get Avon Roadriders for the 350 now that it needs a new set of tires.

Today I did some fiddling with the 750 and tried to fix my leaking #3 carb bowl. I swaped the gasket out for a good one but that didn't help. >:( I got bored with it and went to buy a new battery for it. Once I got back I took the carbs off and maybe I'll look at them tomorrow .
