Very nice Stev-o, another '78 CB550K in capable hands!  Question: is that the stock location for the horn?  When I bought my '78 last year, the horn came in a box of loose items (it didn't work anyway...) and I haven't been able to figure out where it is 'supposed' to be mounted, seems like I may be missing a bracket.

Picked these up in the mail today. American sourced. The German source was temporarily out of stock. The swing arm is coming off this weekend.

That is the correct position for the 77/78 550 horn.  May have an extra bracket if you get stuck. - Brian

Sandblasted the bottom of the 500 tank that has pin holes, flushed it with paint thinner to get the gas fumes out, let it dry, then brazed the pinholes.  Planning on doing an entire sand down and prime tomorrow. I knew the heat would waste the paint job when I saw the leaks, so I figured I'd repaint the whole bike blue , but I have it registered red...... easy enough to change but then I had this idea to  repaint in red again and change out the black area to gold with a black pinstripe just for a change.

Yes, that's it. Performanceintl is the ebay seller name. Hope they will fit properly. I'll keep you posted.

Last spring, I changed to tapered steering head bearings, so the bike should be nice and tight after this.

I'll be reading the "changing swing arm bushing" threads, just like I read the steering head bearing threads last year. This site is a wealth of knowledge. Thank you all!

Where is the rubber material from?
gasket paper from napa or advanced auto, it comes in a (18 inch?) roll. Cheaper than buying new gaskets and the best part about it is you don't have to wait

But....I bought me a choppa! Well, kinda like one.



Has a sissy bar, pad fell off, beautiful seat and oh, so tall ape hangers!
All I need is some 10" over fork tubes and I'll be set! Yeah, right.

Couldnt resist this first year 500 when a fellow member offered it for $500, took a month but finally made it to Austin from IL.

I know, I know, the tank is miscued a bit, dont worry, I can fix that. The tank came wrapped in a box so as not to scratch the original paint [thanks Sean] and yes, have the side covers too. And look at that exhaust! Not bad for 43 years old...

Pulled the carbs this morning to fix the sticky choke. Then I went for a ride....
