Today I procured a place to work on the bike I bought 2 months ago for cheap(ish) given that these are made of all gold now - this is what was in my head as I got the keys...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBDGSajMvLs

Cripes - that's stealing my thunder a bit. How do you embed Youtube nowadays?

Might as well drop some pics of the machine

75K, GL1000 front end, frame's been cut, mechanically a bit of a wreck. All in all I'd rather have the stolen one back BUT... beggars, choosers, so on.

Just post the full link for the YouTube video.

For wrath! For ruin!

Sorcery!

What is wrong with it?  Looks bit rough, but worked on.

It likes to leak oil out of the alternator once it's warm and on the kickstand - there's a very fine JBWeld repair where some PO tossed a chain - carbs send gas the wrong way - PO claims it "might" have an 836 kit in it - generally I just don't trust it - stuff like that :)

your dual disc documentary on that one helped a lot of people here, including me.  good luck with this one.

Nope. Never did. Not a trace. Still chapped about it too, surprisingly.

Glad someone else was able to use that info though!

Installing a Carpy 4 into 1, this thing is a #$%* to wrestle on, but it does look awesome. Unfortunately i forgot about new exhaust gaskets and it leaked horrible, had to throw the old Kerker back on until i get the gaskets.

My guess is a diy air line setup that the PO abandoned. Probably couldn't get it to work well if at all

...it is for a quick fork oil change but that's not the problem. The PO killed the fork seal's !

I think my head gasket is shot... I've been getting more oil on the jug's top fins enough to cause a little puddle when on the side stand.

Looks like an engine removal is my future this winter...

Or, better yet...

Is 754's weldless frame kit a good product? Can I cut the frame with the engine still in?

It could also be your pucks. They leak like nothing else, a real pain. It does look like the head gasket area, it could be both.

Either way once you get down there any of those leaks will be getting fixed up anyway

I was thinking of a different kind of rubber, maybe made by a company called Trojan.

I already know the pucks are a problem. They are leaking out the 2/3 spark plug area. They've been like that since I got the bike, but just a gentle film on the upper fins.

This is a new leak that started last week, and is much more of a dripping leak. It has soaked my kick starter rubber and pools in the area around the oil pressure switch.

I've also noticed that idle is funny since the leak started. Bounces between 700-1000RPM, dial up to 1100 (prev good setting), rev to be sure... back down to 700-1000 again. Hmph. Good thing winter is coming so I can get to this project.

Are you sure something simple like the tach connection is not leaking?  Oil from it can drip down make it look like a head gasket.

I have a tip in the tricks & tips section that tells you how I keep my K6 from constantly developing tach seal leaks.

Not the tach drive. That is plugged. Not using original tach.

Kit is good and yes you can cut with the engine in. I have one and it's a goodun, makes taking the top end off a breeze. If you go that route you can do the head gasket and all else with the engine still in the frame, I reckon scrapping the gasket off the barrels will be a PITA though, it's a PITA enough with the barrels on the bench.
