The weather is warming up here, tomorrow will be in the high 80's but today will be a tad cooler, so I think I'll take the mighty 'Wang for a blast down to the Mornington Peninsula.

I drove my work car down there yesterday and discovered a couple of new roads with some great scenery, so once the wife moves her car out of the driveway, I'm off! Cheers, Terry. ;D

'Twas the best of days, and the worst of days. The weather today was sensational, in the low '70's and brilliant sunshine. The poor old 'Wang hasn't been out since the end of August, so I thought it only fair to leave the Triumph home and put some miles under those whitewalls.

As I left for a cruise down to the coast I realised that I only had 120-odd miles to go before the old beast had done it's first 100,000 miles! Well looking down I realised also that the bike was filthy, and as I couldn't remember when (or if) I'd last washed it, as there was a coin operated car wash coming up, I decided to give the old bugger a tub.

Of course on reflection, it was also a bit stupid, because I spent the next 10 or 15 minutes getting it to run on 4 cylinders again. Eventually the plugs dried out, and I was off again, looking slightly cleaner. Eventually I made it to the Balnarring beach, around 75 miles from my humble abode. I was hoping to get a pic of it parked on the beach, but this was as close as I could get. Yes, that is the sea in the background, and yes, the sidestand was sitting in fairly loose sand, so I was a tad concerned that it was going to fall over, but luckily, it didn't.

Once I'd taken the pics I rode into the village of Balnarring for some lunch. I rode past a group of Ulysses Club guys who were lounging around at a local eatery, and (very) briefly saw my first new Indian Chief as I flashed past silently. I parked outside the Red Hill Bakery, and enjoyed a pie and chips, and a chocolate shake. I looked across at the old girl and thought to myself that it's not looking too bad for a bike with almost 100,000 miles under it's tyres.

Anyway, places to go and people to see etc, so I turned for home. As I got closer to the magic mark I got excited, and decided that a pic was in order. Of course, if I just took a pic of an odometer with 00000.0 miles on it, I might be accused of just installing a new speedo, so I took a pic on the side of the freeway with 99,999.9 miles showing.

Anyway, by this stage it was mid afternoon and the temps had climbed. I was hot, my massive wang was hot, so I decided to ride to my local RSL (Returned and Serviceman League) Club, for some refreshing drinks. I stayed for a couple of hours, drinking, smoking cigarettes, and winning and losing a few bucks on their poker machines.

I wandered out about 7pm, put the key in the 'Wang's ignition, hit the button, and............ nothing. Poop. It cranked and cranked, and occasionally backfired so loud that I heard a couple of people scream in shock. (he he.......) I'm pretty sure it was a fuel pump issue, so I pulled it apart and cleaned the points, but to no avail. Eventually, a bloke wandered over and asked me if I needed some help.

I conned him into giving me a push, but all that issued from my exhaust pipe was a massive "BANG" as it backfired right beside his ear, and we had to stop for a minute until he regained his hearing. He really was a nice bloke, because he offered me a ride home, which, as the sun was setting by now, seemed like a wonderful idea. I locked up all of the panniers and top box, and left it in the car park. I figure that if anyone manages to steal it, they're a better mechanic than I am, so they deserve it. Also, if someone steals it I'm 8 grand richer, so it's a win/win.

Tomorrow is a sacred day, it's the Bathurst 1000 V8 supercar race, I always sit in my comfy chair for the whole day watching the race, so I'll either have to get over to the RSL early, or after the race. Right now, I really don't care............ Cheers, Terry. ;D

I'm envious Terry because your GL looks a lot cleaner than my GL. I was going to say your Wang looked cleaner than mine but on second thought realized that might come across the wrong way.  ;) Well anyhow I'm 51 and just recently finally learned how to solder at least know how to do it a lot better than I did before. I was having issues with the fuel level sending unit on my GL and thanks to the tips from a member on the NGW site I was able to repair it. It just knocks me out that all these years I've been soldering the wrong way.

Wholly Crap Dave!  Good catch!  I can't believe someone would put Dunlops on your bike while you were at work!! ;D

Seriously tho, I had a chain break on me as I pulled into work one day.  On closer inspection, the PO had assembled the master link wrong.  He put the removable side plate on FIRST, making the inside double plated.  He used only the clip on the outside.  Amazing that it went so many miles before it broke.  Also amazing that I didn't catch the issue while wrenching.

Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Haha on the Dunlops.
Its weird cause I know it was put on right, as I just cleaned and lubed chain for DGR a couple weeks ago, replaced the clip with a new one. It was facing correct way too. Never had one go missing before, just glad it wasnt hidden undersprocket cover when I was walking around bike!

Well I woke up this morning (a great start for any blues song) and went to work "McGyvering" an old Perulator electric fuel pump to "Jury Rig" into the mighty 'Wang, if in fact it was still there when I returned to the scene of it's demise.

Thinking that there might be a possibility that the new pump might overwhelm the fuel system, I rigged in an off/on switch, in case I needed to switch it off whilst on the move.

I awoke the wife from her slumber, as she was needed to be my partner in crime, or at least to give me a ride over to the RSL. I packed the fuel pump, an assortment of tools, spare fuel hose, electrical wire, crimp connectors etc into the boot (trunk) of my super Subaru, and off we went.

We arrived before the carpark filled, and I was happy to see that the mighty beast was still there, apparently untouched. Before I went to the trouble of performing any mechanical surgery, I inserted the key, hit the button, and it purred into life. Woohoo! I did notice however a stain in the bitumen under the bike and a whiff of gasoline, so I traced the fuel line from the petcock to the inline filter, and saw that it was weeping fuel around the filter.

I shut it off again and rummaged thru the boot for some fuel line, and replaced the line (sans filter for the time being) from the tap to the fuel pump. I crossed my fingers and pressed the button again, and away it went. I rode home and stopped at Bunnings (Hardware) to buy the wife a jug of toilet cleaner as a "thank you" for giving me a ride to pick up the bike, and to give her something to do while I'm watching the Bathurst 1000 on TV. (she's not all that interested in car racing, and I don't like her being bored..........)

I'm not sure what to do about the pump, I can buy a new one I suppose, but I'm still puzzled as to why it seems to be an "on again/off again" proposition? Oh well, it's safe in my garage again, I'm sitting in my comfy chair watching the race, and the wife has a lovely present to ease her domestic burden, so all in all, a great day. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Same thing I have done for the past week . . . tried to figure out wiring.
New mini speedo tach are both working (minus the high beam indicator light??) and blinkers all blink when they are supposed to and at the right rate. Brake/running light only works when brake is pushed, but I think this is a grounding issue on the running circuit...we'll see and the headlight is not hooked up yet. I am hoping that part goes easy.
Next step fabricate some brackets for everything and figure out where to hide the wiring mess now that I don't have the stock headlight housing  . . . weeee wiring is fun
I bought a bike that didn't run to force myself to learn the ropes! She runs now ;)
Join me as I take my first ever bike and turn her into what I picture in my head!
