That's the plan...Checking compression really bummed me out. Got 90 in three holes and 60 in one of them. But the one with 60 I'm not sure I had the tester in far enough, was a real #$%* to get in there. I think I'll just try to replace the fuel lines, adjust valves, and start it to see what happens heh.

has it been sitting a long time?  if so the rings might just be stuck in their grooves a bit. put some penetrating oil down into the plug holes and let it sit for a while then check again

I started the daunting task of wiring my cx back up, also installed an LED tail into my cowl. Tore the petcock down on my cb500 to try and fix a gas leak, new fiber washers and stainless button head screws, a little gasket seal for the top and now she isn't leaking, well for now at least.

Just seems like it needs SO much work!

I bought it for $400 and it had been sitting 15 years. Looked complete for the most part, and it's in decent shape. But it seems like someone REALLY did some stupid stuff to it. I think once I hear it run, then I'll be much more motivated to keep working on it. I only want a rider anyways, not a restoration or show queen...
Don't throw in the towel yet, very little difference between the K2 and the K3 engines. My K2 had sat for many years before I rescued it. It looked really rough and barely ran, but with nothing more than a lot of elbow grease and the normal tuning and tweaking it has become my favorite bike. $400 sounds like a good deal to me. I paid $1,000 for mine.

The engine isn't my main concern. The half-breed wiring harness is. It looks like there is a lot of electrical tape in there hehe.

I'll get it going, just isn't turning out to be a fun project like I'd hoped for...

hey Logan, after you clean up and brush out your wiring (solder and heatshrink will be your friends) do yourself a favor and clean those carbs before even trying to start it.  These bikes, with four carbs in-line like this are pretty particular about the cleanliness of their jets etc.  It's not really hard (after the first time, anyway) and it's probably the single greatest thing you can do for it after the electrics etc.

Logan, hang in there.  My 750 was sitting for a few years and was rust-seized. A buncha PbBlaster, WD-40, and some gentle strong-arming got it to break it loose and I've put about 6000 miles on it since last July. It has early 72 numbers but is registered as a 73. Mixmasters seem to have happened at the factory back then also, and many registrations were based on sale date rather than mfg date, so I wouldn't worry about it unless it looks like a hack job...if the electrical tape looks "aftermarket", that may be something to look at, but the original wiring harness was wrapped from end to end, and considering the age, could be the original stuff is just falling apart. Once you fire it up and ride it, you'll forget all about those frustrations. Best of Luck!!

Got the '73 CL350 titled, registered and plated in Kit's name. It took some investigative efforts of finding former owners (who actually legally registered it in OR). Two owners in a row before us just rode it with no papers and bogus tags it seems.  ::)

spent all day in with her crawling around trying to put the goddanm back brake back on
I got loner rim and tire put on
put fuel lines on and filter
stumbled around aimless forgetting what I was doing
got her down off my contraption
rode a few laps with no goddanm back brake and let her run for a bit
oil free work zone...hash oil !!!!
secured rear light/signals with more than zip ties
zip tied unsecure tubes and wires

Rode it to and home.

Yeah!! that's where I went on my very first out of town ride..except it was midnight. Rode mine over, and all around, Bald Peak State Park..between Newberg and Hillsboro today. Found some crazy roads out there, including a 5 mile stretch of gravel...Beautiful day but a little chilly..

Xfactor, come on out!! the coast is gorgeous all the way to Canadia..

Well just as it's warming up on your side of the pond, over here in Oz the weather is cooling, so I'm in a rush to finish my paintwork before the weather turns to complete sh1t. I haven't finished my tank yet (hopefully tomorrow) but today I finished my sidecovers and put them on the bike before they had a chance of falling off the bench and getting scratched up:

They sure do lighten up the bike!

I remembered that I'd bought one of those dip sticks with the inbuilt oil temp gauge, so I installed that:

I also installed a socket on my Triumph Rocket III to recharge it with my computerised BMW battery charger, I kept the charger when I sold my K1100LT, my poor Triumph is suffering in a dark corner of my garage while I enjoy my latest 750 project, so I need to save the battery, and the BMW charger is the best you can get to do that. I hope to ride it the 400 miles to my folks place and back this week, so a fully charged battery will come in handy, it's too fcuking heavy to even contemplate push starting! Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

G'Day Dave, I'm only using rattle cans mate, so I'm pretty happy with the finish, you can't buy it any more in Oz in rattle cans, (that I'm aware of, at least) so I'm just hoping I've got enough left for the tank! You've got a stuffed fork seal mate, you don't need to pressure wash it to get water ingress, just washing it normally or a ride in the rain will do it, and don't you love the creamy consistency of water contaminated oil? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Ha ha, yeah mate, just build me a rig to suspend me over the roof and bonnet so I get the consistency right! I've painted a couple of bikes candy colors using my compressor and a HVLP gun and it works great, but I had these candy yellow gold rattle cans sitting around the garage and to keep costs down (I've already got a stripe kit in a box somewhere) I decided that this'd be a gold bike, and never having owned a gold CB750 before, I must say that I really like it! What's your HQ, a Monaro? Cheers, Terry. ;D

not a monaro but just as expensive when new,a v8 premier, ive had it for 26 years,,i drive it every day,ive seen the odo go back to zero twice,(reminds me of a married with children episode)done a lot of camping /dirt bike towing,,if this car could talk???bodys getting a little shabby now,but no way too far gone,,a neighbour into hotrods has put me onto a good mate of his ,a panel beater,it has to be in their heart!ill have to get a cheap buzz box while this goes off the road and ride the 500,its a 308/tricked up trimatic and 3;08 diff,,sig erson cam and L34 heads, performer inlet match ported with all pre smog qjet ,tweaked, electronic bosch ignition, and the obligotory extractors, power steering,it idles great and never overheats, its got the clutch fan and shroud, factory tbar and buckets,,this along with the 500 has me stuck in a 70s time warp!!

Ha ha, nothing wrong with that beast mate, it's a beauty! I'm a Ford fan, but having said that, I had a HG Monaro with all the running gear out of a HK Bathurst Monaro, "back in the day". Hey did you know that Wade Camshafts here in Melbourne was manufacturing cams for Sig Erson? I took a cam around there to get re-profiled for my Suzuki GS1000 back in 1996, and he had a heap of Sig Erson boxes in the corner of his factory, turns out he was making the cams, putting them in the SE boxes, sending them to the US, and then the speed shops here were importing them back? Marketing eh, unless it's got "Made in the USA" on the box, it's no good? Not that there was anything wrong with Wade cams, they built all Peter Brocks cams.............  ::) ;D

I got sick of the flimsy mount on my imitation Napoleon bar end mirrors, so I made up something a bit more solid.
First I cut a piece of 1/2" iron pipe 1-1/2" long, (same length as the flimsy stamped steel spreader that was on it) then cut it diagonally at approximately half way.

Next I cut a groove in the outer section of pipe to go over the notch in the mirror base.

Then I covered it with 3/4" heat shrink tubing. Now their just as solid as the real Napoleons on my 500T.  ;)
