Was headed out for about a 100 mile round trip, but she died on me 1/2 mile down the road. Blew the main fuse. Hopefully it was just its time, but I suppose I should start troubleshooting. Ugh!

I'm assuming you use glass fuses. Did it blow in the middle or did it melt on one end?  Blown in the middle, you have a short/overload somewhere.  Melted, your fuse clips need shined up and tightened.

Will you show me all of them?
Sure.

I never changed the fuses when I bought the bike last December. Judging by the looks of things, I should have. The main was pretty ugly looking, so I kind of think it was at the end of its life. What do you think?

It won't hurt to shine up the fuse holders and pinch then tight so that they grip the fuse caps better.  You may also want to look at the back of the fuse holder for any scorching.

If it looks like your fuse holder is toast, Hondaman sells a direct plug-in replacement that will upgrade ur fuses to blade style.

Deoxit spray on the fuse box or remove it and soak it in vinigar over-night.  ;)

I randomly blew a main fuse on my 750 once and replaced it and have not had a problem with it for the last 5 years. No idea how old the old one was ,may have been original. Did learn a reminder lesson though to carry a spare.

I'm actually thinking that might be the case here, Eric. I bought a bunch of 15A and threw them under the seat in case it isn't. Couldn't get it to blow again yesterday, and the holder looks really good. Will limit her to short trips for awhile. Thanks for the input guys!

I had the same one time fuse blowing on one of my 400fours.  Happened first test ride after resurrecting the bike from a rest of many moons...Larry

Okay let me set this situation up.  Yesterday was extremely windy in my area but that did stop me and a mate from going for a rip on the bikes.  My CB750 hardtail has keyhole '77 carbs and pods and have yet to display less than perfect performance, except for yesterday!  The wind gust created a flutter at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle range, which was controllable but being anal I cannot live with it.  On the way out as well as the return trip heavy winds showed that the set up was not perfect.  I didn't sleep well last night as thoughts of dismantling and fussing with needle position plagued me until I finally managed to drift off.  About 3 o'clock I woke and had one of those light bulb moments sparked by something I had read in a thread on a forum, something about someone running pods with a tube/sleave arrangement.  A few more hours of hashing out how to's and I woke with and idea to make an aluminum oblong shroud that work protect the filters from cross wind and turbulence coming off the engine cases at speed.

After breakfast I ran to the hardware store and purchased a small roll of flashing aluminum and started to fab up the image I had in my mind.  Two hours of measuring cutting, folding and bending I fitted my idea around the carb pods, looks were high on the must haves.

Once anchored and checked for secureness I fired her up, and yes today is just as windy if not worse.  I have a test circuit that heads in all the compass points with flats, confined areas and those nasty open spots that harbour those killer side blasts that sometimes feel as if they can extinguish the internal combustion spark by themselves.  From 0 to 150kph not a flutter, not even when I open my knees to the breeze which the day before would have cause the bike to fall flat on its face if I didn't shift and find a different rev range to compensate.  I can't say it is perfect yet as I have to do some further testing in several conditions and perform the all important plug chops to say FIXED!

But as of now, it out for more riding... the sun is shining  8)

Went for a 70+ mile ride with my family and their stable of BMWs. The little 550 was the smallest of the group but she held her own in the corners. Desperately needs a new chain and sprockets so I'll be doing that today.

Hello all, first post-

Bought a '73 cb500 two weeks ago that is in need of a fair bit of TLC. This weekend with the help of my son we took most everything off the bike, broke down the engine and found two  broken off valve heads in the cylinders (probably why it wasn't turning all the way over). A 550 engine will go into the bike, also broken down and waiting for 600cc big bore kit because the cylinder walls have too much pitting.

Sonny boy is now proficient picking the right size sockets for the impact wrench, but has a basket full of oily clothes ;)

Synched the carbs, Mikuni TMR32. Strange that a users guide how to adjust and do service are not supplied with expensive carbs. I get a guide when buying a toaster for $20US!

I managed to synch anyway after I have seen the construction and made a small test on carb 4. These carbs have nuts to be turned a little to adjust carb 1-3-4 to get same vacuum as fixed carb 2.

My original K3 got its HM341 pipes cleaned by hand so they are presentable next weekend at the ROCKER-BOX Moto-Fest.  I changed the jets from 120s to 115s because a friend said he could smell the fuel when following me. I knew the bike was a little rich but I wanted it that way for some sea-level riding. Now thinking the 115s will be good for moderate elevations. I also cleaned and oiled the K & N air-filter..........first time since it was installed in '75 ;D

Decided to upgrade the look of my bike with a better looking tank. I have used a black scratched set when tuning carbs, change cams etc when I do not want to scratch my latest tank setup in Candy Sapphie Blue from Yamiya750. I have an Ok setup in Freedom Green that I can use until I have done the final change on the bike.

The old repainted tank have some rust inside that I should have removed earlier. Now only 5L  vinegar, 12% concentration the weakest we have here unless the salad versions with half conc that cost much more. I might have bought 24% version for a quicker derust.

I'll buy additional 10-12L 12% vinegar today to speed up the derust. Let tank be positioned in different angles take longer time. I can hopefully reuse the vinegar in my avatar K6 tank that I plan to fix to OEM look.
12% solution work rather quick.
