The wife told me that it's gonna be cold and wet for another week, so I think I'll get some new tyres on my Yamaha FJ1200 and see if the heated grips that I disconnected when I bought it actually work. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

New lifter plate came in and I managed to get it in without snapping it.  I was sweating bullets the entire time...but it was also a humid 102°, so that may have had something to do with it.  Took the bike for a shakedown afterwards and my god, what a difference. New EBC plates and Barnett springs made a world of difference.  This bike is quicker than I thought, now that it doesn't pop out of gear.  Old clutch plates barely had enough material left to grab a fingernail, let alone hold onto a gear.

Found a new unknown toy for my bike (CB750)
I look forward to measure the lift and duration. Hopefully identify it. I have some indications what brand it might be Made in USA.

G'Day PeWe, if you remove the bolt and washer from the other end of the cam, it'll probably be marked with who made it. ;D

Hi Terry,

I have to wait a week or 2...it's still in USA, just shipped.
It can be one of these: http://www.satanicmechanic.org/andrewscam.shtml

Well I hope it is mate, I think mine is an Andrews, it is the same profile as the OEM K1 cam, except it has around 2mm more lift, and it works very well with standard cam timing. Good score! ;D

It would be perfect if it is the D profile. The A will be a good cam for another project with less modifications.

Cam    Timing   Lift    @.05"
                inches  degr   Description and Application
--------------------------------------------------------------
A      20/40    .345    240    Good bottom end torque
       40/20    .345    240
--------------------------------------------------------------
D      19/40    .385    244
       40/19    .360    244

Got the cam yesterday. Mounted it and timed it. A lttle bit hotter than excpected!
"RC295" seems to be carved under the washer... I do not trust that. I'll drive tomorrow if not raining.

De-rusted the wrinkle tank that was strorred for decades due to a big dent, but still has the original paint, trimm, cap and badges and mounted it.

I took a ride today with my CB750 that has got another cam installed (even higher lift than before). Rain and thunder made the trip shorter than planned.

Z1 parts, USA

Give us a ride report after you put a few miles on em.  Thanks

Did a quik test ride.

I´d say, at least not worse than before: sprng too hard, even in softest position, poor damping. So nothing new.
Drivable on good flat roads, bumpy on bad roads.

But its OK given the price and KO look.

Now the brakes work, baby got new shoes. Just as well too, as I was riding up my street on cold tyres, I gave it the berries in second gear and did a massive power slide. The old Dunlop Sportmax had tons of tread on it, but it had just gone hard, which didn't inspire confidence, and the front Bridgestone was looking a bit tired.

The weather here is cold and crappy, so rather than take the wheels off in my driveway and take them over to Jeff at Ace Motorcycles, I rode over there and took them off in Jeff's workshop, while he installed the new Pirelli Sport Demons. The early FJ1200's had weird 16 inch tyre sizes, so I was glad that I could still buy new sports oriented tyres for it, this bike is capable of 150 MPH(+) and I wouldn't have been happy with "touring" tyres designed for Harleys.

Anyway, we got them on in record time (a couple of hours, with coffee and interruptions from paying customers) and the bike felt so much better in the corners on my extended ride home. Good stuff! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ha ha, that's an Aussie icon, the "Gearsack Rack" Sarge, it was on the bike when I bought it, and I'm still looking for the Gearsack to go with it. Cheers, Terry. ;D

How about a 30-Year-Anniversary trip? I'd join you.

For me, it would be wonderful to visit Austria with surroundings again.
I have talked with my family about my motorcycle adventures. Especially driving thru Germany, Austria and finally go for a swim in either Italy or former Jugoslavia (Slovenia or Croatia). We talked about doing the same by car. We have not done that yet. I bought a large 3 room tent for it. We have had training camps here in Sweden, the islands Öland and Gotland.

Last year I was able to get a NOS luggage rack for my old Givi bags I bought end of 80's. eBay is fantastic.
I'm not sure my wife will like a bike tour.  Zell am See is (was) a nice place back then. Last time I was here was 1987 then Rimini. The sea is much clearer on the Jugoslavian side. There are so many wonderful places to view in the alps. Cortina was a nice place too.

I'll massage their brains until next summer. I hope we can do the trip. Unfortunately by car. Our son will be 19 years then so he might get own plans until then which open up for other discussions. Sitting on a bike for hours is maybe not all womens dream. First trip I did back in 1984 was with my current girlfriend I lived with. It was very close see took the train back home from Jugoslavia when I told her to do so when I was tired to hear her constant complaints. We separated 2 months after.... :)

I'm currently waiting for taking my bike out on the road to enjoy my latest cam install. Today with different carb jetting, hopefully the correct one. I have bad weather here, rain and thunder which means good weather with sudden vertical tsunamis.

nice choice Terry.  I have been using Sport Demons on my VF500f which also has a 16" front, and they really stick like glue!
