New tires today. Rear was flat, 1- 0.5mm left, front not in balance. Old tires were Metzeler Laser Tec rear-front. I had higher expectations. Rear worn out before 5000km's! About 4000km.
New tires are Dunlop Arrowmax StreetSmart. Bike feels better when not flat rear.

Yep, I'm not a fan of metzlers either mate, I had 'em on most of my BMW's and I found that they tracked all over the place, slid on wet white lines, followed road contours, and if the road had been "scoured" in preparation for a new layer of bitumen, it was downright dangerous.

I binned them and replaced them with just about anything else, and they were better. Interestingly I've got them on my Trumph Rocket III, and I've had no issues like I've described above. Even with 7000 miles on them, they're only slightly worn, (I was originally told that I'd probably have to replace them at 5000 miles, which is "normal" for Rocket III's) and should be good for a few thousand more. The rear tire Metzeler ME99 back in the 80's was good! Good handling, grip. I made about 8000km's with them.

Yep, I'm guessing it really depends on which bike you fit them to Pewe, I had them on my 1979 R100RS, and they were crap. I replaced them with Bridgestone BT45's, and they were excellent. Cheers, Terry.

A good alternative is the Bridgestone S11 Spitfire. That is what I have on mine.

Its a survivor!
lost all my other bikes, my house, to much stuff to even cry about.
had a bankruptcy
pulled off a house buy with all cash
and rode my lone survivor today.
now I.m probably going to sell it to pay for a certification exam fee.
Oh well by by baby.

Certification exams are such a fvcking ripoff, there only to make $$ for the testing provider and to enable hiring managers slide on doing REAL applicant vetting! I've been in my line of work for about 28 years. I know many a worker who hold the same certifications that I have yet I wouldn't let them near any piece of work I care about! You want to prove to me that you can do the work? Then don't show me sone pimped up piece of paper, SHOW ME YOUR SCARS!

Spent two months bringing a 76 cb550f back to life from PO that did many things wrong.. After rebuilding the motor and getting everything back together, today i started it and after about 20 kicks it started up and was running great. Until i noticed oil coming from the alternator cover. After looking around i noticed that there is a hair line crack above crankshaft. Bitter sweet day today. Tomorrow JB Weld.

G'Day Bobby, that's a shame mate, but sounds like you can fix it easy, so pretty much normal for a resto, you gotta expect a few problems on your maiden voyage. I didn't know that the smaller SOHC4's had oil bathed alternators like the CB750 though, I thought they had a seal on that end of the crank? Cheers, Terry.

Well 550 shouldn't be oil bathed hahaha. The oil is seeping out of the crack and filling up the cover. But the motor did start and run so its a good day.

Oh, OK, so the engine case is cracked? I'm not sure if I get you? Sorry mate, I'm just a poor old grunt..........

In my profession, a certification exam is about 100 multiple choice (guess) questions with a pass/fail threshold. The questions are on features and functions of the software. There's not a whole lot of real-world questions like, "your database is slow, causing the website to crash, costing your company $1M per hour. What do you do?" So it's a multiple-choice exam in an essay question world!

As for the fee, mine are $250 a shot. My company will cover it, if I pass. Fail and it's my dime! Definitely make for an incentive to study up, but I can't, cuz the database is slow, causing the web site to crash and costing the company $1M an hour....

Yesterday a wonderful trip 140km away from home on really beautiful curvy roads on the countryside, a wonderful landscape. Nice place to eat, drink, coffee. Back home nice too. Slow speed, mostly 50-70 and 70-90kmh. The carbs pilot circuit had to work most of the time when the throttle lift was really low most of the time. 6 other bikes were Victory and similar HD style. Carbs became better.

EXCEPT for the increasing wrist pain that became really bad after 150km in slow speed. I understood that it was time to replace the handle bar. The clubman has wrong angles. Drag bar is much better when I had that style back in the days during long tourings.

Changed bar today. This together with new tires is WOW!! Much better handling and bike control, no pain in my wrists!

I am also a big fan of drags (look and function). The only time my wrists hurt from drags on my 550 was after my first 50 miles. And that was after a 5 year layoff from riding ANY bikes.

Finished up some little details like warning stickers, throttle tension screw,dash/idiot light plate and center stand. As stated many times, that center stand spring is a b**ch!'
