Topic: What did you do to your bike today ?

Okay Stev-o, short version on my CB450 build.

The CB450 motor was stripped down, cleaned, barrels bored out and re-sleeved, then the new sleeves were bored out to take 74mm pistons., making it 497cc. Head was ported and polished and fitted with race valves and megacycle race cams. Capellini oil pump fitted and external oil lines delivering oil into the cams. CR33 carbs fitted. Starter motor removed and blanked off.

The frame was modified with the centre brace removed and extra bracing put in to match the Hansen bikes of the 60's. Suzuki GT750 4LS brake drum into an 18" rim on the front, CB450 rear drum modified from rod actuated to cable actuated brake.

Honda CR450 replica tank made in India because UK suppliers would not answer my emails. Davis motorsport seat and rear sets. I made the brackets for the Davis motorsport fibreglass front fender.

The silver bottle is the oil catch can, with both cam cover breather tubes plumbed into it, required on the track.

Progressive springs and emulators in the CB500T front forks, YSS rear shocks (locally made and good quality).

I used an aluminium tank, left the kick start spindle in and made up a side stand that bolts on and off, so that I can convert this bike to road use later on if I want by adding headlamp, brake/tail light, speedo and handlebar switches. If I do this it will be made up as a 'plug and play' system that can come on and off the bike as required.

Now it is finished I am ready to do another Honda SOHC4, I have sourced a CB750F1 and hope to do a careful resto-mod as has been shown successfully here by Tweakin and others in the past.

Very impressive!  Tell us a little more. Stock motor?  What's that bottle on the side??

Now you see why the 450 is the most impressive Honda ever made Stev-o !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Seriously though, the 450 is one of the best vintage foundations for the cafe racer format.

I'm getting real happy with this but won't be able to wrench again until Tuesday. I'll preview the colors Tue or Wed.

No pics, sorry. Drained the gas tank, cleaned the filter, removed the carbs and cleaned the jets, then reassembled everything and took it for a spin. For the full tale of woe, I just posted it under "Help me SOHC4 Kenobi... " etc. Sunny days driving a 4-ton diesel pickup SUCK.

4-4 fits very well. (Thanks Yamiya!). After a year they finally find the place on bike.
 I know now that OEM rear foot pegs are a must for correct assembly. The cheap aftermarket is too thin and too small hole. 12mm, 14mm needed. The foot peg mount must be several mm thick and shaped that fits the exhaust. Ordered a complete set from Yamiya together with new OEM mirrors.

I hope a friend that has plenty of CB750 parts have a set of pegs over so I can run it this weekend.

"Rat stopper" removed from bike when it cannot be healthy for the flow to block the pipes almost completely. Ok for stopping rats but not the power! Look like beer bottles

They do look like beer bottles PeWe!!! I never heard anyone call them rat stoppers but I guess that's a good description. I think the bike sounds much better without them as well.

They do look like beer bottles PeWe!!! I never heard anyone call them rat stoppers but I guess that's a good description. I think the bike sounds much better without them as well.

I hope it will sound OK and not too much. The "rat stopper" for the motor vehicle inspection every 2:nd year when the bike is a veteran. Without the fiber mat. I'll spray the inside with black rattle can heat resistant paint.

Got the 4-4 on with correct rear foot pegs. Important to get the pipe on the spigots on head completely before mounting the rear bolt. Not possible to force pipe on spigot afterwards when it will become locked due to the spigot angle.
Risk to damage the pipe too. Especially number 1 made some additional work. It must be wiggled on without any rear bolt in.

I started the bike without the diffusers (baffle). Not too loud on idle anda little revving outside my garage. Rain stopped a test ride. Hopefully tomorrow. The carbs need to be adjusted again when the idle is more D-D-D-D-D again. Before RRRRRRRRR spinning like a smooth machine.
Hopefully fuel screws only. Closer to OEM look. I have ordered new OEM mirrors from Yamiya. Today Z1-900 mirrors (cheap copies not as good as my old real ones)

Great looking  bike, PeWe! What brand/specs steering damper are you using? And, do you like it?

The steering damper is an old one from the early 80's. It looked old back then when new too
It make a huge difference. I do not want drive without one.

I have always the hardest setting. Helped a lot during touring with 2 people (slimmer and younger) and luggage that made the center of gravity to move backwards, easier to get front wobbleuphill or when twisti ng the throttle.

It must be this model that Yamiya has except for the frame clamp. I use a cheap exhaust clamp. I might order a new with better clamp when my damper is leaking a little (old and dry seal).

Her second gear is worn out, I have been shifting through it for years now.

I will open the engine up, mesude and see what needs to be done.  Project for this and maybe next winter.
