Swapped out my headlight for one with an H4 replaceable bulb, removed chain, rear wheel and sprockets (going +1 on the front and -1 on the rear).

Slapped a new AGM battery in the XL250s and rode it up for its annual inspection.
Then gave the state more money for fresh tags.

Do you know if you register as an antique, an annual inspection is not required?
Don't ya know if you register as an antique it's only $60 and good for five years?!

It's a no-brainer.

Well...I've read the regulations(and I haven't stayed at A Holiday Inn in years) but what probably thousands of Texans do is not within the intent of the law. That being said I'll be registering my 550 as an antique when the current registration expires. :)

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yamaha xs650 camshaft, rephased to 277° along with the crankshaft.
Gets rid of the 360° firing order with both pistons rising and falling together, now when one piston is mid stroke the other is either tdc/bdc...much smoother. Similar configuration as nearly all parallel twins built today with their 270° cranks.
Sounds ducati-ish....

If he didn't care he wouldn't hit me so hard... :o

And, to be fair, if I'm only going to ride the XL250s ~85 miles a year I really should register it as an antique.
Maybe next year.
Or sell it.

Got back to work.

Originally looked kind of like the last picture.  Soda blasted it a while ago then just a lot of sanding then buff

If you cut/join your factory cam 180* out, you can get 1-4 to fire TOGETHER as well as 2-3.  Will give you that POTATO-POTATO-POTATO Harley sound ;D

It will also climb sand hills (with proper tyres) like no ones business.

Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Is that 3 potatoes or 4? Will it make it miss on one cylinder? I'm confused, cos I want to be the first kid on my block with a 4 cylinder Harley! ;D

The Cam I've cut is from a Yamaha xs650 parallel twin, not a sohc /4
Changing it from a 360° to a 277° crank, enabling smoother running.
Most parallel twins made today run with this configuration.

Sorry for any confusion....

It's a "Big Bang" cam configuration. Basically the paired cylinders fire on the same spark. So instead of the nice smooth bang-bang-bang-bang we all know & love, you get BANG-BANG-rest-rest.  If you wana try it before you buy it, Terry, re-time one cam on ur Mighty Wang by 180* and you'll have an 800 pound hill climber!

Swapped out my headlight for one with an H4 replaceable bulb, removed chain, rear wheel and sprockets (going +1 on the front and -1 on the rear).

Which headlight housing/bulb is this? Looks good!

It's Biker's Choice housing and an H4 bulb. Got it online from http://www.canadasmotorcycle.ca. Cost was about $55 CDN. It's a lot lighter than the sealed beam it replaced... Guess I'll see how it holds up over a season.
