Thanks Terry!  Mike's cafe looks great too.  Hope I can scrounge up a Giuliari seat for one of my bikes someday.
If it works good, it looks good...

Lapped my 350f valves but all of them are still leaking, so I made an appointment with my machine shop for new seats cut, and my cylinders honed. It's gonna be a happy bike come spring

Today I trued my wheels, which was as easy as people say. Also ran some parts through the ultrasonic cleaner so I can get this build on the road...

Plugging away on putting this disassembled K6 bike back together. The engine came to me with all the covers off and its dirty inside. Gutted out the clutch area for cleaning. Dropped the oil pan and pulled the pump. Good news was no metal, plastic, rubber, illegal aliens or other surprises in the pan just some black sludge on the bottom and the screen on the pump was very clean. One thing of note was the cover everybody likes to break on the clutch has a bearing in it and this one was on the verge of a seize when it was pulled. A good cleaning and oil brought it back to fine shape but would not want to have run it as it was, something for you to think about or check if your doing an engine that has sat for a long time  ;) Similar bearing on the shifter side also.
Next step will be to pull the cam, rockers, towers etc to give the top end a good careful cleaning and put in some fresh pucks and o-rings where needed. Here is a pic of the top end to show a dirty before, would have been nice if the PO had kept the cover on  ::)  Peering down the cam chain tunnel the rubber roller looks good so that's a plus.
Luckily the temp was warm today at 39 degrees  :D  so was able to wash/degrease all the external covers and some other bits in my old gas I save from draining tanks. Be glad to get all this cleaning done and put this thing back together and get it in the frame for the next adventure.

Checked the bikes in the shed today, snow on the ground. Brought out a beer and hung around for a while, ahh, waiting for spring here in the great white north.

Well I think I fixed the short on Mike's CB750K2 Cafe Racer today, but fell into a fit of depression when I realised that the oil leak will probably require me lifting the head, so I took my Sportster for a ride to cheer me up. I've been messing with the jetting on the Mikuni flat slide race carb I installed a few months ago, from new it felt lean so I bored the main jet from 160 to 205 (only because I only had one jet drill bigger than 160) and it actually ran pretty well, but I'd since bought some new jet drills, so I bored a 165 out to 180, and adjusted the idle mixture.

I also checked the fuel tap's flow, as in the past it's felt like it was running lean at high RPM, to the point where it'd tap out at 5K RPM, (approx 90 MPH) and I was actually thinking about buying a Pingel petcock, but after filling a 5 litre drum in only a couple of minutes I decided that there was nothing wrong with the OEM tap.

Anyhoo, I took it for a ride, and a few miles down the road, it conked out. Fcuk. I rolled to the side of the road, and checked the fuel level, even though I knew it was half full. I turned the fuel tap lever to "Reserve", turned the key, hit the button, and it fired right up. Hmmnn, weird. I rode another 3 or 4 miles, and it did it again! Fcuk!

Same same, checked the fuel level, played with the fuel tap, hit the button and away I went. Four or 5 miles down the road, I could feel it dying again, so I reached down and loosened the fuel tank cap, and away it went! Blocked fuel cap breather! I rode back home with the cap loose (no issue, it didn't miss a beat) and when I got home I replaced the cap with a new "Drag Specialties" lockable cap I'd bought a few weeks ago, and took off again. No issues for the rest of my ride, so I was glad that it wasn't something more serious. Woohoo! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Found in time that I have forgotten to mount the inner collar holding the lower wheel in the std cam chain tensioner. I found cheap NOS parts where this was one of the items. Remembered that I did not mount it. My previous tensioner did not use it (metal wheels with needle bearings).

I'm happy to find out before mounting the pistons with cyl, head, starting it and later find metal flakes in oil....

Blocked fuel cap breather!

Oh man, I reckon we have all had that one happen before - same deal with my CB500 a couple of years back.

Glad you found the fuel starvation problem Terry and I am sure you will have that oil leak in Mikes CB750 fixed in no time - just think of the garage space you will have once Mikes bike is with Mike!

Since my CB750 looks like a hover bike with the front forks out and waiting for fork seals I took the V-Strom for a country ride. The hills roads are covered in wash outs from the rain we had last week, seems everyones gravel drive is on the road now. I did nearly lose it in one of these wash outs but just managed to control the bike through the slippery corner without low siding it!

I've just finished a bottle of Havana Club rum Eric, it's a magnificent drop, I think you should race over to Cuba and set yourself up as the official importer as Bobby was telling me that you can't buy it in the US yet? Now there's an idea mate, get the contract for importing rum and cigars into the US, and you'll make so much dough you'll be able to send me a nice GT750K as a "finders fee"! ;D

Yeah I had a similar "pants filling" experience last Friday Cliff, for some reason (maybe as the result of the storm) there was sand all over Plenty Road in Bundoora, and I did a big skid when the rear brake on my Sporty locked up! Luckily the front brake has about as much power as your K2's, (wouldn't lock up on ice) or else I would have dropped it for sure! Hopefully that's been sorted by now, I'm feeling like going for a ride today. (once it stops drizzling) Cheers, Terry. ;D

Speaking of fork seals, I managed to get that "tight as buggery" bottom bolt undone on the one fork leg giving me attitude, so now both forks are completely apart and awaiting new seals.

These top tubes are mint, best I have ever seen.

I think I will put fork dust seals on the lowers this time instead of fitting gators that flop around and let water in the top.

Well done Cliff, and yep, gaiters can protect your fork tubes, but they're also very good at holding water. (I hate them, except on original bikes) Cheers, Terry. ;D

Just briefly watched a TV segment (but not all) about Havana Club. There are 2 versions: the original recipe sold to Bacardi years ago and produced in Puerto Rico and the newer Havana version. Trade wars. Made me want to find the Cuban version once I land in Costa Rica tomorrow. I'll have 3 months of roaming to locate some. I'll report back on the findings when I return in April.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Hey Joey....no, do not have Avons all all my bikes, Also have Bridgestone, Dunlop and IRC, I like to try different rubbers!  Continental also makes excellent tires, I will be buying those next.
