They did not .  Iron valve guides will be used this time.

You're right, gents, as usual. Sorry I felt the need to be a righteous ass. The truth is I make too much money for my particular skill set, which is more or less snarky comments. To prove my worthiness I'm donating 80% of my motorcycles to charity, including the car-sized ones, it's a tax write-off after all. At least in the States. Which is where I'm moving to get away from all these Aussie poofters (not that there's anything wrong with that).

BTW, rolled my bikes out of the garage today since the rain stopped momentarily. There's a leak on the 550 I need to attend to, but other than that not the major work I see going on here.

In all seriousness gents, I salute you all for being able to do MAJOR engine work. I, as Terry will tell you, am an accountant with a wrench. I can keep 'em going, but not at this level. I'd have to farm that out if it comes to it. Or until I buy a garage, whichever comes first.

Ha ha, thanks men, I actually donated two of my bikes (my big black 'Wang and my Yamaha FJ1200) to charity last year. Cliff (Maduncle here) runs a charity called Good Deeds Garage, he takes donated bikes, sells them or turns them into something more desirable, and money raised goes to charities like "Beyond Blue" etc.

So 2 bikes isn't quite 80% of the "Herd", but at least one car sized one (the GL1200) and all I can afford right now. Cheers, Terry.

And without your help Terry I would never have raised the money to finish the bike.

That custom Kawasaki Z500 tracker is now running and ready to raffle off, with all proceeds going to "Make a Wish" foundation here in Australia (a kids charity that gives terminally ill kids and their families amazing gifts).

The bike is also featured in the latest issue of the Australian "Tank Moto" magazine, which is found in some USA magazine shops.

Yanked everything but the electrical connection and oil tank off Red in prep for engine removal.  Need to have it on stand before my son leaves for college on Saturday.

Yes, the shipper (BTW a very professional gent) came by.  The bike should be in Wisconsin by now.  According to the shipper the buyer is a real gearhead.  He was supposed to pick up another bike for her but the deal fell through...Larry

Cut the windshield down 3" on the Windjammer during out short break in the weather.  Seems like it rains every other day lately and when it doesnt rain its drizzly so I havent been riding much.

While I love riding motorcycles, I don't think I'll ever get used to the handling of a raked out big bore cruisers.

Fixed a foggy, dirty area under the speedometer glass on my CB500.  After watching a You Tube video, it was easy to learn how to pry up the edge of the bezel ring without visible damage.  A little tape on jaws of a pair of pliers protects the bezel for the re-crimp.  The hard part is finding a suitable sharp, flat screwdriver to pry the edge of the bezel up.

 This has bothered me for months and I finally got around to fixing it.

Ah Sunday.

I had the new fork seals fitted, forks rebuilt and installed within an hour after breakfast. Then it was time for a test ride up the black spur and back down again. The forks are performing well and the bike feels very solid, a totally different ride to the plush V Strom.

I am trying to get that front brake adjusted just right, seems that the pads are tight on the rotor and no matter how I move that little caliper adjuster screw and spring I can't get any play. The front wheel spins freely but squeaks. Hopefully if I leave it backed off a little it will free up with a couple of rides and then I can re-adjust.

Now to clean up the garage, having received a ute load of race bike in parts on Friday night. Basically a CB250RS frame modified to take a rebuilt XR500 engine, with an optional FT500 frame, three sets of forks, three sets of wheels and about ten boxes of parts.

  Sure, happy to post it;

This is not a video of a Honda speedometer undergoing repair but the bezel ring in the video is of the same style. The tools and techniques are the same. I also had no idea that white vinegar was so good at removing rust . . . a useful future tip from this video.

Use a very good screwdriver to remove the screw from your Honda speedometer trip meter reset knob. Mine was rusty, I almost stripped it.

I might have spent the last couple of days making an abomination! I bought a little Chinese headlight/blinker/fairing combo for my VTR1000 streetfighter project, and I thought how cool it would be if I could mount the original gauge cluster in it, and be able to adjust both the angle of the gauges, and the angle of the lights separately.

Using aluminium bar, I make up this "Meccano set" to achieve that aim, and came up with this. I think it still needs some adjustment, but I think it's going to work. Not beautiful, but "If it works good, it looks good". (thanks Sean)
