That Kawasaki 900 look nice. CR carbs and RC 4-1 reveals that it must be more under the hood. RC cams too? Like 377, 388 or 400....

No idea Per, RC cams weren't all that popular here, more likely Yoshimura or Moriwaki back in the day. I think mine's got Moriwaki cams to match the pistons. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well it was a magnificent day today, so I pulled old red out of the garage and rode to the Broadford State Motorcycle Complex for the annual "Easter Bike Bash". This years event was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the CB750, and CB750 owners were encouraged to bring their bikes.

I loved it, I haven't seen so many 750 fours since the "Good old Days" when it seemed that just about every second bike in the car park at a race meet was a fat four. It really took me back. I was happy to see that along with the perfectly restored bikes in the tents, the vast majority of bikes looked like they'd been ridden to the event, many from interstate. It was great to see plenty of patina bikes along with the pretty resto's. Great day!

What are those wheels on the Seeley I wonder? They look like Lesters with the centers of the spokes machined out.

They're nice wheels Danny, there was a shop that sold Seeley's here in Melbourne in the 70's and they were importing all sorts of wonderful aftermarket bits and pieces for them. I'm sure I've seen those wheels before so I don't think they're modified Lesters, Lesters weren't all that common in Australia. ;D

G'Day Per, yep, it's a new project bike, probably a K2, in my home town. I'm picking it up next weekend. It's been outside for 10 years so not expecting too much, but I've got plenty of parts in my garage, so shouldn't be too difficult to turn it back into a rider. ;D

Where those cams better or only a reseller thing?
I know a Z1000-77 that had RC cams, not that high lift that needed special shim thing according to the owner that let modify it.
It ran really well with good response (tons of torque) from bottom and all the way where throttle had to be released. Longer forks did not like speeds over 210-220 kph. Better stabilty with passenger.   Dell'orto carbs, nice sounding 4-1, bored without boring the 1015cc  block for bigger sleeves. Probably ported head and trap door oil pump thing too.

I don't know Per, I had an RC Engineering pipe on my CB750F back in 1978 and it was good, but I don't think we got a lot of RC stuff here? Yoshimura and Moriwaki was much more common here, and both companies sponsored race teams here, with great success. I don't know if you've been following my Mad Max build, but I recently scored an Arias 1428cc big block, bored cases and a ported Z1000 head, so in time I'll change out the 1100cc Moriwaki equipped engine and shove the 1428 in. I'll look at scoring some big cams to go with everything once I get a little closer. ;D

Hi Terry
Yes, I saw that Arias block, pistons look fantastic! Calculate compression and match cam to that for street or max drag race power?
If it has been used for drag racing only, no registration, right?
A hairy sleeper is always welcome to show the younger and older guys! Molded Arias on the block will alarm though. But has cooling fins, more than RC and MTC....
Bigger aftermarket block guys independent of make. My block feels suddenly very tame ::) Your valves huge as doors....

Ha ha, yeah, it'll be a monster Per, definitely won't be drag racing it, but do want it to be fast in a straight line, while a reasonable handler too. Still trying to decide whether I'll keep it true to the 70's, or whether better (modern) forks, brakes, wheels and swingarm will be a smarter way of doing it. We'll see, plenty of time.......... ;D

I am about halfway through blasting the 74' 550. I just love sandblasting because it works so well but it is nasty business. I have to get it done so I can paint the frame and hang it up to dry while I assemble the motor.

I spot blasted the visible rust on my frame, I didn't see the need to take the frame back to bare metal to paint. If I were going to be power coating I would blast, but not to paint.

There is too much compromised paint to not blast the whole thing. Besides, I don't cut corners just because it is quicker. If I am going to all the work to set up to blast I am going to blast the whole thing. That way I am sure about what is under the paint. The last bike I blasted was a 75' 400 Four and it came out great. My friend can't ride it anywhere without someone trying to buy it.

I sandblasted my whole engine and got it all hung up to be cerakote. it came out great! Take your frame to a powdercoating shop and have them sand blast it. it would take me 10 minutes to blast the whole frame  ;D
if your going to do it,, do it right. BLAST and for petes sake, POWDER COAT it. its the only way to go

The powdercoater's around here are expensive and I am on a budget. Last summer it cost $100 to blast and coat an engine pulley, two brackets and blast only a 6" wide lower valance. They wanted $350 to blast and ceramic coat a 400 Four header so no I won't be powdercoating unless I do it myself. The theme of this cafe build is vintage, like it was built in the 70's and perfect powder coat would look out of place. Besides, if I had a bike that nice it would get messed up on the quarter mile of dirt road to get to the pavement. ;D

Understand the vintage look and all makes perfect sense if you are close to austin texas ill blast it for you for free.

Thanks for the offer but I am a little too far for that to work. ;D I got it all blasted today and now I can prep for paint. I can't wait to start assembly of this bike, it will be the best bike that I have built so far.

Got my new to me 1977 CB750F2 running today. I think it's possibly the 1'st time it's ran since 1984. It sounds good but needs some tune up love. I'm happy.

This weekend was a mixed bag motorcycle wise.

I gave up on trying to get the Accel coils installed for the time being. I just wasn't able to figure out how to get them to work with the stock brackets or to adapt the generic brackets they came with. In the end there was nothing wrong with my stock coils and I want all the mechanical work done by month end. So the stock coils are back in place and the Hondaman ignition all hooked up.

I also took a look at my starter button to figure out why it stopped working. The reason seems to be that the board with the power contacts is getting pushed out of the housing by the ball bearing in the switch. I don't know if the issue is that the 3D printed replacement housing is a bit too wide or the small tangs in the circuit board are a little worn and not fitting snuggly into the housing. I may have to break down and spring for a repop switch assembly.

I started to refit the exhaust, which I had completely fitted up a couple weeks back and now I can't recall how the muffler bracket I made fits. I finally gave up on it late last night. Hopefully next Sunday I can sort that first off and can start the bike and make sure I hooked up the ignition correctly.

If stock fork is not enough mounted as it should, replace it with a fork from a more modern bike mounted as it should be. Not making bike to a death trap.

Looks as though the tubes are at least 3" up over the top tree

Lol..yes not road ready. I have a lot to do. I have some replacements but I'm waiting on a triple tree I ordered so I'd hope those could at least handle the test drive. You think I should wait. I heard the engine it was great. Yeah I don't know what's up with the raise it's almost 3" over yes

Looks unsafe as is.  Top of fork tube should be level with tree.  As is it looks as though the tire will hit the lower stem when you hit a bump.  Maybe the tubes are extended and the PO raised them up to make the front end sit lower???  I would see how the bike sits with top of forks even with tree.....Larry

I took off the ape hangers that came with the bike and rewired some stock CB400 replacement bars. What a #$%* dealing with all that wiring. Had to warm up the old bars with a hair dryer to get everything moving...being the bars were so long and the wires are 45 years old and a bit on the stiff side. Then I had to remove the extra wire someone installed to make the initial change from stock. It'll be worth the effort when I get the new ones on, I still have to replace the extra long brake line before I can put it all back together.

Well back on February 16 my son Tim ordered a new black Royal Enfield 650 Continental GT. He put his money down and the salesman told him his new bike would be in Oz in 3-4 weeks. Last week, when he called to ask where the fcuk his bike was for the third or fourth week in a row, they told him that a new "Chrome Tank" bike had just arrived, was he interested in that? Why not, as winter draws nearer, we both wanted some riding time! We had a false start on Saturday when we drove over to the bike shop, only to find it closed for Easter. Great.

Today was better, the shop was open, the bike was there to look at, so Tim and I piled into the spare Hyundai and drove over there. We spotted the new bike as soon as we walked in the door, and we both liked what we saw.

I'm continually impressed with the quality of finish, the "Chrometank" is the most expensive model, $500 more than the bike that Tim ordered, but I've always liked the idea of a chromed tank, so the chrome/black combo with gold (hand painted) pinstripe appealed to both of us.

I had to have a sit on it!

Now of course we were both hoping the dealer was gonna give us the bike for the same price as the one that Tim ordered (that still hasn't arrived) but that wasn't gonna happen, so instead we wangled a deal on some really good wet weather riding gear for Tim, a new jacket and trousers for half the dealers cost price, so we both thought we'd had a win. Good thing is this bike hasn't even been test ridden yet, the Pirelli Phantom tyres (remember them?) were unmarked with all of the tyre mould tits still in place, so it goes to "VICROADS" (the DMV) tomorrow, and as Thursday is a public holiday (ANZAC Day) we'll pick it up on Friday afternoon. Hopefully it won't piss down rain on me on the ride home, I'm always nervous riding someone else's bike anyway, and I'd hate to bin Tim's bike on it's maiden voyage! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Have yet to see a RE in person. Really curious to see just how well it's made and rides. Please report back soon.

I haven't ridden a recent RE model, but I was very happy with my 2002 Bullet 500ES (electric start). It was my gateway back into riding in 2006 or 7 after a 20 year break.

It wasn't fast, but it was lots of fun, well made, and sounded terrific. I got a lot of positive attention from that bike, particularly from Chicago cab drivers.
