...did the gauge thing to make them like new again.

Those are stunning! How do you get such a perfect “crimp”?

I echo those comments about the gauges, phenomenal work and I have not seen anyone do a crimp like that ehi didn't have a jig or a machine do the crimp.  Please show and tell us how you achieved such a perfect crimp.

Built a wheel with new spokes for the K6.

John, I missed your picking up another bike to build...
Or, that you are rebuilding/refreshing a K6. Nice looking bike!

Who makes your wheel truing stand? Solidly built unit you have.

That K6 should keep you out of trouble for a while. ;)
David

David…… The K6 has been sitting in my shop longer than I thought! Check it out in “Project Shop” section. I bought the stand several years ago, from a local website. I think it was KapcoMoto.com. They were on sale at the time. Great for balancing too.

John,I have the same wheel balance/truing stand.
I have tried sitting a wheel on there for truing using the 2) large fine thread bolts which screw into both sides of it,down a bit lower;I found those 2) pointy cone pieces which sit on the end of each large/fine thread bolt didn't hold the wheel(inside the bearings)as well as just sitting the wheel on the top where the bearings roll. The truing works well now.
The stand does excellent for balancing with very smooth bearings.

The two shafts that thread into the vertical legs have been sitting in a drawer, since day one. I also find them useless! The top part does everything perfectly. I’m sure there is a use for those bits, we just haven’t figured it out?

Mine has a simple pointer which is ok for getting started but I later install a mag base dial indicator for fine tuning.

I bought a similar stand off of ebay, but I just got the balance version. It has the top shaft and cones only, and then made my own pointers. I also have a mag base dial indicator. Cheap and effective.

+1
I have found some blue-tac and two bamboo skewers can do a perfectly acceptable job. After lacing on the rim on I just put the wheel back in the bike and blue-tac skewers to the forks or swingarm, one either side of the rim pointing to the rim corner. Flipping the wheel over several times throughout helps me ensure the skewer ends and rim are centred and not offset to one side.

Steve…… I’ve checked a few wheels when I pulled them from the bikes. Some had as much as 3/16” of run out and “bounce” and rode just fine.

I just use the stick and when I see less than 1/8” run out, I pull them all a bit tighter and I’m done. With a skinny new tire and an ancient (not so skinny) rider: all good.

I pulled the front wheel, touched up the paint and removed the very nicely stopping disc brake and put on dual discs and a modified speedo drive. I turned the wheel and it made a chain/sprocket type noise. I thought a bearing was bad or the speedo drive was in a bind. Nope, it was the tread of the tire rubbing on the wheel clamp L0L!
I took a brake break before attempting to install the silver F1 and A calipers. The one that was on it moves to the turbo drag bike's frame.

I went back out to try the caliper brackets, The right side unused hole has a mud dabber nest in it. A little tapping with a tap, WD40, brake clean, and determination got it most of the way open. There is a little more to go. I'm going to try to mount over the fender brace and see what it looks like. The last time I went under because I thought I had to.

Oil change, requires removal of one of the pipes. Light carb adjustment due to cold temps. JMR 1k motor is coming along well.

How does a machine close the crimp to look professional factory work?
How much to fab such a machine? I've got a gauge or two needing refreshed and dampner pot filled with silicone oil.

Got the new fuse box today so I worked out where I wanted it, leaving room for the flasher can next to it, drilled some holes, couple of M5 S/S bolts and lock nuts, sorted. The solid state rec/reg goes on the back of the battery box and the battery will be rubber isolated

The fuse box is a simple but clever design. Power straight in from the battery, 4 fuses and outlets, LED indicators to tell you if the fuse has blown. And of course modern blade fuses, I searched for mini blade fuses but couldn't find a stand alone unit.

This is what I might use instead of a key, it's bigger than I expected from the eBay pictures. It's ,again, a simple solution and has a cap to cover the 'key' hole .
I'd like to have just used an on/off flick switch but not the most secure option.
So the theory is power from the battery ( it's a small one as there's no electric start ) into and out of this isolator then into the fuse box
i blame Terry

I don't think I put pictures up of the chain guard I made, 25 x 3mm steel , cut, bent and welded. The welds are on the underneath so it looks pretty good I reckon. Painted in grey primer, satin black then aluminium.
It'll get a/s Allen bolts later
i blame Terry
