How long since the last ride? Might be the slides are gunked up a bit.

About a month, and yes, that is what I was thinkin'.
The nearest fuel station from my home is about a mile and they have ethanol-free fuel, I use it as much as possible in my bikes.

It sounds like the throttle lift/carb plate is binding. I had one this spring on another 064A set of carbs what wouldn't move freely when it was off the carbs, the bushing the the lift rod goes through was binding. I ended up drilling out the locating pin(it was a pressed in pin).
Your K4 should/may have a brass cover pressed in covering a set srcew in place of a roll pin like mine has.

Or the pull wire is breaking up. Look inside where wires are hooked up with  throttle  grip/roller.

I did not check in time, wire snapped during a ride. Good luck not far away from home. Increased idle and rode home.

First thing I checked, the cables are moving freely and not that old. I believe I replaced them when I rebuilt the motor when it blew up!  [Big Bang Bike]

More than likely not the resolution to your problem...When I first got mommas bike, it would do the same thing.  I would clean the carbs and it would do it again and again.  It turns out the liner the PO had put in the tanks was melting or whatever and flowing down through the carbs and kept gumming things up.  Re-lined the tank, issue was gone and so was the blue paint it won BOTM with.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

I initially failed tech at Bonneville one year with my 750, the inspector felt my throttle wasn't really snapping back like it should, returned very lazily.  While I was checking the spring, lubing the cables, etc, fellow racer Tom Mellor came by on his bicycle, sprayed some wd40 into the end of the grip.  Problem fixed.  The plastic throttle sleeve had gotten a little gummy.  That's an easy one to try if you haven't already solved it Steve.

Hey Rich...was in process of removing the carbs and just for the hell of it, opened throttle again with the cables disconnected, it is snapping back now properly, WTH??!
I connected the cables back up and now it's working fine except with the bars turned right all the way, so I think it has something to do with cable routing.  I got tired of jacking with it, buttoned everything up and went for a ride!

Yes, a real beauty
What is the seat? Is it just the angle or does it look slightly different than pure stock?

It's the Texavina low profile stock style seat. It's pretty high quality overall but I wasn't happy w the chrome trim so I popped it off and used black brads to fill the holes. Thought it looked good w the black powder coated tail light bracket and lower trim off the tank too.

finally got my recovered seat back for the trailbike, its very red. waiting for the Honda and XR750 stencils to turn up now.

had a look at the 'to do' list and there's nothing left i can do before the whole bike is built, wiring , brake lines etc.

so i've started pulling it apart for paint and powdercoat, terry is going to help me get the engine out on the weekend so that can be cleaned and painted. the frame needs all the useless brackets, tabs etc grinding off ( its a K7 so no-one is going to get too upset about the irreversible modifications ) then off to powdercoat, the frame is going to be red.

bodywork is about 90% ready for paint ( white ) and stickers ( Honda with wing )

i should start a build thread i guess
i blame Terry

Yep, start a build thread Spotty, it'll be a good read. I started to think about building a CB750 based dirt bike yesterday, I've got that POS Varadero sitting in the carport, and wondered if I couldn't harvest the front and rear ends from it, and graft them onto one of my spare CB750 frames. It might be a fun bike. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I went to bike nite again last night on my blue K5. It was a beautiful September evening,  we had 72°F for the high temp yesterday, I'm glad I put on my denim shirt under the leather jacket for the ride home but will have to dig out the fall gloves as the vented summer gloves on the ride home were a bit chilly.
There were also 3 others that showed up on their SOHC Fours, Greg on his 1976 K6 that he just bought cheap, the 76 F1 of Brad's collection, Geoff on his 71 CB500 Candy Gold and my 75 K5 Planet Blue.

Spotty needed an engine for his Chopper, and I had one sitting on a bench, that I'd been trying to ignore since having problems with one tight 65.5mm sleeve. (my fault, I missed the last pass after many hours of boring out the cylinders, at .020" max, each pass) I thought about trying to bore it another .001" or so, but bugger that, I'm sure I would have screwed it up, so decided to use my fancy home made honing machine instead.

I built this machine a couple of years ago (probably to fix this engine, I don't remember...) but have never really used it. Regardless, it worked well, I wasn't covered in cutting fluid, didn't have a big mess to clean up afterwards, and Spotty and I will be installing the pistons on Thursday. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Good luck Terry and Spotty. ;)
I have a 65.5 mm cylinder too. I'll remind myself about the very thin sleeves stick out. The shop owner  of the place that bored was concerned. But the old mechanic had no issues.

My old 836 stock K6 cylinder that has got another chance when I found 65.5 mm piston set cheap.
I hope all rings are OK, I have not checked them. Hen teeth I guess ;D

Good with extra parts on the shelf until  getting a wild idea to find frames and more to them ;D

In case anyone was wondering.. Tarozzi rearsets work well with the stock exhaust.

(I know the brake lever bolt is loose. Waiting on a spacer.)
