Steve….. The K1 is running on a perfect NOS set of HM300’s I picked up about 10 years ago. When new, I took an 1/8” drill bit and drilled out the original drain holes. Originally the hole is only in the thin outer muffler shell. The stub end of the head pipe is in there too, so I went through it as well. I clean them out a few times a year and blow in some WD40.

On start up today they drool out water for about 5-6 minutes. I ran the bikes for three times that long. After it cooled a bit I blew in some WD. They still look like new. The K3 has a lovely, stainless steel Hindle 4-1 pipe. It blows any moisture right out the back!

 I replaced the broken Tarozzi shift lever that broke when I dumped the 750K1 Rat Race over in the shop, it actually snapped when I picked it up. Fortunately, that was the only damage, and I could buy a new pedal. I finally understand how the Tarozzi adjustment holes line up with the locating pin and how messed up the PO had it when I got it, I used a machinist file to remove the burrs he left behind.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Entered my bike into the Toronto International Motorcycle Supershow.

How did it go? I used to take bikes down but got stuck in a big snow storm a few years ago (on the highway with a trailer full of bikes). Never again.

That is an interesting bike!! Looks like the crank is in line with the frame and a 90 degree change to the drive sprocket?

Steve….. my very old Cleveland (SOLD). Two stroke, multi-plate clutch, with a two speed gearbox. The engine dropped out of the frame in minutes and could be dismantled almost as quickly. All made in Cleveland, even their own chains. VERY clever design, check it out here:

The bike at the back of the photo was built by another CVMG member. It’s really an old bicycle fitted with a two-stroke washing machine engine and a lot of other old scrap. It called it a “Maytag” and had many of us convinced it was a real brand!

I came last in my class but because there were under 10 bikes, I still got a plaque and some money haha. First time I've ever done something like this so I'll still take it as a win.

Asked the judge for some advice after the show and he said my bike was clearly budget compared to the others but probably looked the most like a cafe racer.

The cafe class is small so if I wanted a chance of winning something, I had to go up against the professional builders. My bike was the only "independent" bike in the class and I suppose it's hard to compete against a pro shop that has the resources and can spend $100k+ on their show bikes.

Worked on the 1973 cb750K3. It’s developed a slight clutch judder when taking off from rest. My wife usually/occasionally rides this bike, so needs to be smooth. Didn’t find anything too nasty but the clutch springs were oddly long (+35mm free length) and a narrower wire size than others I have. On the left, first photo.

 Installed new fibre plates, very clean steel discs and replaced the springs. We’ll see if it changes in Spring! My shop is surrounded by 3’ of snow today…..

Sure that discs were not warped?

Barnett CB750 clutch springs are 37mm long.
My K2 has them. Stock clutch model with cheap fibers from Cruzinimage.

My K6 had the golden Barnett springs before with its  K6 clutch. (No double metal disc)
Added 2 mm thick washers under them.
Later replaced the clutch, later K7/F2 with double metal disc. No washers. EBC fibers as before.

Had to install the harder black springs for CB500 and smaller bikes to handle the bigger torque ;D

I have had bad working clutch when the adjuster screw for clutch lever inside the chrome cover was released (backed off) too much.
The manual say tighten screw until it stops, release 1/4-1/2 turn and lock with the nut.
When closer to 1/2 turn or slightly more clutch could rattle at idle and  take offs.

I did 1/4 turn out. A gentle ride for at least 1/2 hour until engine was warm. Back home and verified that the lever inside chrome cover had play when clutch wire was released.

Double checked again the day after on a cold engine.
I had thoughts about clutch fibers soaked in new oil before assembly could add extra clearance when engine has been warmed up. That affected the adjuster screw setting..

Oil is no longer that thick in clutch package after a ride.

If my K6 start to slip due to wrong adjustment, the fibers and glass beaded  metal discs will wear prematurely

Here my Barnett springs, 37mm long.

Almost forgot.
The Hindle 4-2-1 looks good on the bike! ;)  And vice versa!

I like the Hindle sound. When riding gently, gentle sound. Will not wake up the lawmen 's interest.
When using the throttle, pipe will respond with a nice tone. ;D ;D

My K2's Yamiya no number 4-4 are louder when cruising at around 80-100kmh than my K6 970cc with a Hindle.

Niw tou have a good reason for a ride! Your wife too.

I have been worried about what to adjust next giving me a reason for a 200km ride when something finally has been tuned in during and after numerous rides.

So far, new things happens or I start no notice something in need of improvement.
Carbs, charging, handling, new lights/bulbs or just wear the tires to see how long they will last! More I ride faster I will know!! ;D

Next year fuel additives to make the engines shiny clean inside the spark plugs! Redline Si-1 has the stuff doing it.  I'll see how .....

Per…. They were all perfectly flat. I changed them all for a cleaner, better set and used new fibre discs too. Stock springs have min height of just over 30mm so I went with a set I had at 32mm.
