Watched mother nature give it a big time all day bath. Now that it's home for good, time to get a cover.

The bath part starts here tonight.  In the meantime the roads dried out from the last one, and I put another 60 miles on the 400SS up through the Hockley back roads.  When I stopped at Timmy's, it drew a small crowd.  Going to get my coffee 1st, answer questions 2nd next time. LOL

The weather broke, so I ride to my favorite local watering hole for dinner. I also got to test my newly installed turn signal relay. Works like a charm.

After what seemed like a lifetime in the garage (only couple months) without progress, finished rebuilding front caliper, reinstalled cleaned-up carbs, bolted back on holey exhaust (till 3:30 AM) and fired it up!!!!  After few hours sleep, went for couple mile shake down which went OK.  Later went for about 15 mile ride.  need to re-bleed front brake system, replace fork seals & oil.  After that-check rear brake.  Etc. Etc.  But it's working - Oh Yeah! Felt good to be back on 2 wheels after 13 yrs.

Installed new plugs this morning.  Installing plugs on my bike involves removing the fairing and tank.  Plug #2 was missing the compression ring.  Found it off to the side.  Made sure the new plugs had their compression rings.  Put everything back together and fired it up! Ran nice but no indication on the tach.  I had forgotten to hook it back up after installing plug #3. ::)  Managed to hook it back up with only shifting the tank.

Went for a four mile ride around the big block.  Everything went great until I turned back into my neighborhood.  About 4 blocks from home everything went dead. :o  Took only a few moments to realize I had no electricity.  Called home and told my wife what and where and asked her to send my daughter out to help me push the bike back home.  About 1/2 a block from the house she shows up an helps me push it up the last bit and into the front yard.

After a few checks with a meter I find the problem was with the ignition switch.  The red power wire had corroded of the switch. Took the switch apart, cleaned the contacts, cleaned the end of the post that the red wire was supposed to attach to and soldered the wire back on.  Hooked everything back up and power was back.  Took the bike out for another run around the big block and made it back home without any mishap. :)

Took the bike out for a nice ride today.  Wanted to go look at a couple of houses and what better way to bum around on such a beatiful day.  Still gotta get new fork seals though, popped the right one last week in the mountians.

Rebuilt the master cylinder and put my front brake back together. Bled the line using an oil change vacuum pump. Worked great!

Rode the Kaw to my shop, cleaned up and reassembled the sprocket cover and clutch lever mechanism for the CB 360, put another coat of paint on my CB650 brake lever then decided to go to Rock Bottom for lunch.  I hung out downtown at Taste of Cincinnati for awhile them rode back to the shop.  Sat in the sun and fought with my clutch lever mechanism until I felt sick from the heat.  It would have gone together right the first time but the PO had put an extra part in the mix, most likey in an effort to make the worn out clutch last a few mor miles.... (uhhhh WTF?)

I rode the Kaw home and posted my frustration on hondatwins.net...

Took a nap, woke up to an email from a forum member offering to talk me thru it.  I called the guy up and during our conversation figured out that there was an extra part in there.

Rode the Kaw back to the shop, sorted out the clutch adjustment literally as the sun was sliding behind the Metro garage, killing my only worklight in that part of the building.  It feels like a clutch on a bike that isn't running.  I couldn't test ride it or start it because the pipes are off.  I rode the Kaw home, smiling all the way.

Finally got the nitehawk home Jerry rode on the relay.   I think I like it but need to redo the front end.     # running sohc4's now and the 360.  The 360 is probably pissed I haven rode it in a couple months.

Took the CB650 and CL350 out for a little 8 mi. ride.  Got about 4 miles out and the 350 started idling really low... then at 6 miles it started backfiring badly... then it died.  Took the 650 back, got a charged battery and new spark plugs.  The new battery started it, the plugs- one looked lean the other seriously rich... bike wouldn't idle at all but stayed running with a hand on the throttle.  We limped it home that way, but now thinking we'll wait 'til we can get the carbs done before taking it out again.

Sounds like you got carb gremlins alright Kit.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

This has become my standard reply since all the problems I had when the relay was here in Chicago: check the connections between the condensors and the points.

My 1-4 connection was loose causing the two to run intermittently and to backfire like crazy (and quite spectacularly with fire shooting out the #1 tail pipe). I tightened the nut and like magic I was back to running perfectly.

I put about 200 miles on it yesterday.

About 800 miles total in less than a month back on the road and probably 6-7 total rides.

Now I need to do something about the ass numbing properties of my seat (other than finding one of those incredibly ugly king/queen things)

Danny I have one of those ugly seats feels good on long rides but I hate the looks. Just bought a stock seat from a form member.looks a lot better but hard as a rock compared to the other one. So I'm sending the stock to this place all new foam and a gel insert in the front. Check out this place

Stared at my CB650 longingly this morning.  Went for a ride to my Dad's this Saturday (about a mile) and on the way back the shifter and sprocket seals both went out and started squirting oil.  So she's parked until the new seals get here.  And we have such beautiful riding weather now!!! Sunny with 75-80F.  :(

Went to the only local shop t hat has old bikes and got an unbroken clutch pushrod and a disc brake splash shield for my CB500, all for the grand total of ten bucks!

I'm working on getting the pristine points plate off so I can get to the just as pristine advance mechanism and springs. Alas, two of the three screws are fighting back. Sprayed them down with PB Blaster and will go back with my impact driver soon.

Brought the 360 pipes home and cleaned the rust off of the unexposed surfaces.  I used a Scotch Brite pad and water and rubber them very lightly. then dried them with an old t-shirt.

I'm a little pissed  >:( Just noticed the directional arrow on the new tire I just had mounted for my CB750 is opposite of the actual rotation. Has anybody had this happen to them. Did you have it remounted correctly or were you temped to just to put it back on the bike and run it like it is. Alright tire experts could it be unsafe to do this? Would the bike handle and ride different. If there could be some safety issues I will definitely have it remounted.
