Purchased insurance for the 550, $26 for a year! Obviously not full coverage, but will keep me legal on the Texas roads. Plus the bike is safely stored in the garage, so theft is not a concern.
Feb 1st is the goal to get it out there...

Steve, you are not concerned about theft when you have it out and say stop at a store or some thing? I have heard of bikes around here being lifted when the owner went in to pay for gas.. Just a thought..

No, not concerned about theft as the bike will only be used for cruising the Texas Hill Country and not for "shopping".

Took the 650 around the block to blow the moisture out of her.. it was a balmy 36 degrees but I didn't care; had to go on a birthday ride! ;D Unfortunatly, more carb work to follow as she's boggin down at about 45-55 mph..  thought I had that problem licked when I replaced the float.. back to the drawing board I gues! :P

Thanks to Johnie's idea of using a black Sharpie, my dyno covers look like they are stock again. I've been trying to figure how to do this for a long time. I'll do a second coat later today. It may seem like a small thing but it's one of those finishing touches that ices the cake. Thanks Johnie!

I went and took a piss and looked at my bike under its dirty old tarp. It's going to be a while before I can ride it again. Aah.

Got a Morgan Carbtune yesterday.  Did the carbs today and then took a little ride.  It is a neat little tool.

went to my dads shop in St. Petersburg and got a 5ft by 1/2in stainless rod, I should be able to make that horse shoe headlight mount -ala benjiscaferacer.
also I picked up a 3x18x1/8in aluminum plate in case I end up making clamp style mounts.

got four stainless 10x20x10mm spacers for the radial calipers,(320mm rotors)
OOH! I found some really big one inch warning lights from a machine built in the 60's.
now I'm tired
everything I say is pure speculation and
I have no idea what I'm talking about  ._.

let my mechanic load the green monster onto a trailer to do phase one of the restoration project. bike was stored when my daughter was 9 and she is 26 now. before i could my bike in line for work spent over 100 hours polishing and cleaning the bike and aluminum. send a dirty bike to a mechanic is like going to a proctologist and not wiping your butt. also loaded new set of dunlops 404's,battery and renthal street fighter gold bars. mech will make new longer collectors for the headers of unknown origin. bike was bought from a guy and it's history is a little iffy. at any rate it's in good hands i've seen some bikes he built at the ahrma races and it's nice my 3 year search for a good local mech is done. with luck phase two will start in june. that will be powdercoating the frame, motor upgrade with a fat midrange cam, relacing and alloy sun or ankront rims, suspension by me and everything setup for the tail of the dragon. and that's what i did for my bike today and it sure seemed happy to be outta the barn for the 1st time in 17 years.

continued with the teardown and getting ready for the rebuild. Still waiting for the forks/seals + pipes and the dyna 3000 controller coils and wires. everything that I pull out gets cleaned prior to getting put back in so when it's done, it will be like showroom new. Just better in many ways.

took the valve cover off the last screw had to be drilled out. Whats up with the shinny spring covers on the valves are those stainless or high performance pieces?
Maybe a bigbore kit in it :)

Fired Delilah up after making the new 350 take her place up at the front of the garage.  In a moment of haste, Delilah got pushed to the front to 'make room' but now we're golden, and D can get out.

She sounded goo-oooooOOOD!  Realized I was a dumbass and forgot to tighten down one of the drain screws when I emptied the bowls a month ago.  oops... ::)  A little spilled gas = an offering to the Gods.

I just took the left over screw (cir. in red) last pic and it brought the threads in the head with it. :(
cam is getting ready to come out after 9 tonight.
Is this a stock cam?
RC327 H39 on it.
Look's like I have stainless retainers.

Wow Johnie that is awesome looking. Where did you send it for chrome plating? Did you ship it or take it there? Looking for a good place some where here in Wisconsin if I can when I get to that point..

Did a leak down test on my sandcast engine and #4 seemed to leak a bit more than perhaps it should but the mechanic that did it said it should be ok. At least the head gasket was not leaking. Whew! He did recommend to torque the head to about 18 pounds and  that he regularly torqued the 750 motors to 20 foot pounds. This is with a motor that has been run yet and quite oily. The best bet would be to run it for awhile and then do another test when things have settled in.
Cheers,
Cliff,
