Rode it (1980 CBX, not the 750)  to work and back.  Would have taken the long way home except I needed to get my daughter to basketball practice.

Looks like the K4 project is progressing quite well. Keep up the great work. Take your time and do it right. When you are finished, you will have a fantastic resto that will bring great pleasure to you and all who see it. And yes, if you show it at shows, you will hear a lot of "looks like my first bike", "Had one just like it.", "great bike, wish I still had mine", and many more versions of that. It can get monotonous, but you will still enjoy hearing it and continue sharing it with others. I know I do with mine.

Hi,

Spent yesterday evening and this morning in the garage.
Disassembled my rear fender, tail light, rear winkers, and lubricated all contacts of the wire harness with Vaseline.

Lubricated all rubbers with molycote 111, and polished the front fork lower legs.

76 550k.  Went for a little (cold here in Atlanta) ride just to keep her loosened up and pulling in the drive the clutch cable (34 yr old) snapped......I coasted into the basement and had the new cable I had stashed away on in 20 mins.

nice to catch a break once in a while
76 550K bought brand new...mothballed for 30 years... and still running great

Well I never got to the classic races at Phillip Island today. I've managed to "put my back out" and can't even stand up straight at the moment. I've taken some Ibruprofen and I'm sitting here watching cable and hoping I come good soon, so I can at least get out to the garage later and finish reassembling my F2 engine. Oh well...........  :P

Rode the CBX again - to two basketball games, lunch and such.  Started out about 45 degrees and progressed to low 50's before I got back.  Not many miles, but enough to get it warmed up good and hopefully keep the jets and passages clean.

Got in one nice run up the interstate without too much traffic and had the chance to wind it out a bit.

Felt good.

Took her out for breakfast and a little 45 mile spin.  Was going to go further, but I'd realized I'd under dressed. :P  Had a big dude on a Harley next to me and he couldn't stand to have me ahead of him, so he'd pull ahead... then I'd speed up a little... we did this back and forth 'til I was cranking 80mph.  I realized the road up ahead was kinda crappy and figured being ahead of him wasn't worth potentially getting a ticket or something so I slowed up a little, but we met him at the light again anyway.  ;D

Brrr!

Started her up, and said hell with it & took her for a quick 1/2hr ride. Its like 36* practically summer allready
I know if mine was not apart I would have gone for a ride also its really nice out for this area this time of year!

.: Scott :.

Would have fired mine up, had my GF not commandeered the battery charger for her bike.  Instead, I finally hosed off the salt from the last ride I took some month ago.

Yep.  I am a terrible bike owner.

In my defense, the oil and crud from the last coupla years really kept the salt from making any headway on the chrome and such.

Forgive me, Jebus.

I had a great day off (day 3 of 4 day long weekend) watched cable TV until midday, then the wife kicked me outside so I got stuck into the F2 engine. I was just gonna shove the K6 head back on it but I had some soft new valve guide seals in the gasket set I bought last week, and I was having a mental battle as to whether I'd go to the trouble of pulling all the valves out to install them, but after I tipped the head upside down and filled each combustion chamber with solvent and watched #3 and #4 exhaust valves empty the contents into their respective ports in short order, I no longer had a choice.

The other CC's were emptying a little slower, but I squirted some air into the exhaust ports and it bubbled the solvent in the CC's, so I knew I'd have to at least lap the valves back in again. I cheated and used my cordless drill rather than a suction cup and stick, but it did a great job, and even though two of the exhaust valves were screwed, a bit of scrounging in my garage turned up two better ones, and they all came up well after some lapping. I washed all the old grinding paste out (extremely important) flushed everything with WD40, wiped it all down and reassembled the valves back into the head, with those nice new valve guide seals.

I repeated the solvent test, this time the fluid just sat there, not moving. I tried the compressed air trick, but this time no bubbles in the CC, All good! I've installed the head and torqued it down in 4 foot pound increments to 16 ft ibs, then in 2 ft lb increments to 20 ft lbs. I'll leave it overnight then back all the nuts off and re-torque it to 20 ft lbs again, assemble the cam and rockers, time it, do the valve clearances, and shove it back in. I'm really looking forward to getting it running properly after 5 years of disappointment! Cheers, Terry. ;D

scooter, I know the one you bought is inexpensive but it might not last as long as you want.
I bought some with run/stop and amber turns from customdynamics.com with a replacement warranty.
it was 60 some bucks.

Got lots done over the weekend; stabbed the engine back into the frame & started putting 'er back together.  Local bike show on Saturday really lit a fire under my ass to get this thing rolling:

Gave up on finding off the shelf headlight ears for 54mm forks that don't look like #$%* and borrowed a page from FunJimmy's playbook:

Thanks!  Wish I could take credit for 'em but I just copied the design.  No sense in re-inventing the wheel.

I got out there and adjusted my clutch mechanism and cable again, no slippin' for me.  Took 'er for a test ride and really realized how wildly superior the HJC 3/4 helmet is to the xspeed one.
