I was plagued with the infamous cracked and busted idiot light panel on my 400f.  Back during the Barber's festival, I saw a buddy had a 750 front end he was going to put in the swap meet area (we had a booth) that had a nice condition idiot light panel on it.  It's not the correct OEM black for the 400, but it bolts right up and to me looks great!  He kindly donated it for free! I put a little rubber restore on the gaskets, replaced the bulbs in it and the gauges, and installed a new 35w h4 bulb in my headlight since mine was 65w and would kill the battery (especially with the dyna ignition installed  ::) )

Went for a 90 mile ride to celebrate. Feels like a new bike now!  This is a happy 400 owner (as usual!)

You have any pics of headlight setup? What is that thing, its real shiny.

Here's one in motion. It's a 7" with the included h4 conversion. It was around $50 I think...

Rode the bike down to the local motorcycle shop so they could use their rivet tool to compress a link on my chain to get the retaining clip on all the way one(yes, it was halfway on  :o  )

Finally! I can ride now and man, this X-ring chain feels like butta!!   :D

Bowling alley wax? That's a new one. It may be better to keep the fuel tank full to keep it from rusting.

She's lookin' dangerous mate.  8)

It took me nearly 8 hours to mow half of the block here last weekend and needs doing again already after the rain this week.
Me mate reckons that I should have a lawn sale and sell it for a dollar a foot.  ;D

The bikes looking magic Terry and it sounds as if she's roarin' like a loco at full song.

Mick

Thanks Mick, it's a bit cold and wet here today, so i think I've escaped the mowing until next weekend, which is fine by me, it gave me time to work out why the bike was running out of fuel on the way home.  I took the tank off and put it on the stand and turned the fuel on, nothing. Fair enough, it was looking pretty low, but there was still enough in there for reserve to work, so I switched it to reserve, but still nothing. OK, I removed the fuel tap (pet cock, s.......) and it was as clean as a whistle, but the fuel tube was a tight fit coming out of the tank, so I theorised that the POR15 job I did last Christmas was the culprit.

For reserve to work on a K tank there needs to be some clearance around the fuel tubes base so that fuel can flow past it and into the fuel tap, and mine was as tight as. I drained the tank, (3 litres of fuel came out, give or take) and then used a chainsaw file to file the surplus POR15 back to the metal so that the fuel tube in the fuel tap was a sloppy fit in the hole, then flushed the tank out so that any POR15 filings (now a grey powder-like substance) were washed into a bucket, rather than into my carbs.

I screwed the fuel tap back on to the tank and tried both the "on" and "reserve" positions, and the fuel flowed freely, so I shoved it back on the bike and hooked up the clear hoses, and was pleased to see fuel flowing again. I let it sit for a minute so that it'd fill the float bowls and then checked for leaks, (none) then hit the button and was rewarded with a healthy 'Varoom-a!".

I forgot to mention that on my ride yesterday the throttle jammed on @ around 6000 RPM and I had to force it back down, and with the tank off, the problem was obvious, the locknut on the return throttle cable had vibrated loose, so I fixed that, and tightened up a front blinker that had decided to rotate at 100MPH. All good now, and ready for another ride. Ah, life is good with the "Rainbow Warrior", ha ha! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yep, they're Tarozzi's, and look pretty strong. I weigh around 300 pounds so I'm not gonna stand on 'em just in case, but I'm sure they could probably handle it. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Terry, I'm moving to Melbourne towards the end of next month. I'll mow you're lawn for a year for the rainbow dream bike. ;) Seriously, I may need help finding a bike once I get there. We're still trying to find an apartment(flat) first. Do you know of any good sites for apartment hunting?

Tested winter motorcycle pants this guy made for me 15 years ago - different bike, different continent and they still fit. Afaik it was the first time ever i used them.
Of course, my obnoxius youngest child said they will be too small for me, I get no respect.

G'Day Mate, I'd almost go for that deal, I hate mowing my lawn, but I can't afford to build another bike, so we'll have to come up with another deal once you arrive. I do have almost enough parts lying around to build you a CB750 though, if you're interested? I'm just about to leave for work (Monday morning here) but when I get home I'll see if I can find you an on line real estate listing. Where abouts are you going to be working? PM me if you prefer. Cheers, Terry. ;D
