If I were you Dave, I'd send that tank back to the painter.  He painted a picture of some hideous old bald dude on it!  :o

Removed my forks for what seems like their first rebuild EVER. The right fork looks like it has gangrene where it goes into the triple tree. I'm surprised it didn't break or something ~_~ Probably post a picture tomorrow when it's light.

I also see the scary bald guy painted on the tank. he has tats on his shoulders and if you look closely there is a piece of grilled cheese sandwich with Jesus on it painted on the tank as well. All jokes aside, Dave what did you use to polish?

pulled carbs for rebuild, removed rims/tires for rebuild, worked on seat pan( I LOVE  Fiberglass dust on the neck) started wiring  for rear turn signals/brake light. first time in over 3 months that I have had time to work on the bike, my company shut down for the holidays so it was nice to get some garage time.

Just got back from the first ride of 2012!  Only about 15 miles.  Had a small window in the weather, so I took it.  High wind gusts and rain turning to rain/snow mix and then snow.  Stopped at the gas station and tanked up when the rain started up.  Not that rain will stop me from riding someplace that I need to go to, but just for a ride, I headed home.

Had a small leak where one of the oil hoses mounts to the engine.  Replaced the Orings and it's dry as a bone  :D   Took it for a 30 mile ride.  51 degrees in sunny NH today.  Happy New Year!

I removed the fork gaiter this morning after getting the fork with leprosy off last night.

Turns out there's a HUGE ding (looks like a rock got it real good), as well as deep pitting in the suspension travel area. I have no idea how that happened, because it has the original gaiters on it. Either way, I'm going to need a new fork tube. Seems I can get a set of forks for like $50 with free shipping on ebay. Might as well do that, as most of them look better than even my cleaner fork.

Finished rebuilding the good fork. DAMN that was easy. I'll have a week's worth of downtime, at least, until I get a new fork :( At least the next time I ride, I'll have basically a whole different bike. Replacing my leaky and damaged brake caliper, rebuilding the master cylinder, and rebuilding the forks.

decided to change the weight of fork oil today. loosened off the 2 top caps, hung the front up with a couple of strops from rafters. drained the fluid, thought it would be a great idea to lower the bike. came down quicker than expected and shot the fork caps off. have found one, but not the other(must of gone into bloody orbit) luckily have a spare set of forks off a 79 XL250S and by crickey same cap. have finished now, hopefully one day the missing part will turn up.  ;D

I heard a loud bang on my garage roof a little while ago Scunny, you want me to get up on the ladder and see if it's your fork cap? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
